    Rope trick teleportation?

I still have to go my wife's reasoning against it. The explicit fact that the rope CAN be pulled free means that the space does not move once the spell is cast. And, it's worth noting that there is no rope on any 3.5 equipment list that wouldn't break if you tried to pull it free. No rope can...

    Can non-touch spells be "held"?

Here was the situation... Combat starts and the wizard goes first. She starts casting Enlarge Person to make the big, buff fighter bigger and buffer. The fighter wasn't paying attention to this plan and charges into combat thus going beyond the range of the wizard's spell. Next round the wizard...

    Rope trick teleportation?

That's the part where you just have to say "it's magic!" and move on. The spell 'anchors' itself to the spot in the world where it's created. So it will move with the planet but get left behind if you cast it on a moving ship. I think that's the only explanation that works, otherwise you...

    Rope trick teleportation?

Sorry Abraxus. After talking this over with my wife (who's also a DM) it looks like I have to switch sides and join the "it doesn't work" camp. She pointed out- the fact that rope can be pulled free AT ALL is what matters. That indicates the extra-dimensional space itself is not movable. The...

    Leadersihp and Thrallherder

I'd say the main guidance for what thralls/believers will do for the Thrallherd comes from the "fluff text" for the class. (emphasis added) What cohorts and followers will do and what they expect is explained quite well in the DMG, chapter 4, in the "Friends" section. But thralls/believers...

    Rope trick teleportation?

I have to agree with the reasoning here. Teleportation does not "pull" on anything, so it's not going to pull the rope free. (And even if you rule that it does exert that kind of pull- shouldn't the rope stay behind, or are you suggesting that your mage can pull 16K pounds with ONE HAND?!) If a...

    Operation: Power Level Gary

I plan to [-]kill[/-] run my group (playing with AD&D rules) through the Tomb of Horrors this weekend in his honor.

Comparing dice mechanics and how they affect flavor and style of gameplay

How dice mechanics of different games compare has always been an interest of mine. Fortunately I just finished (yesterday as a matter of fact) a statistics and probability class so I can finally understand it a lot better. So it's neat that I should find this thread just at the time I can most...

    A D&D Edition... into a SINGLE picture... (?)

How about a bad movie theme... OD&D AD&D 2nd Edition 3rd Edition 4E Edit: Forgot to add this- just because a movie is "bad" doesn't mean it's not awesome! ;)

    A D&D Edition... into a SINGLE picture... (?)

Maybe its the Skills and Powers 2E stuff. Not because it was so bad, but because so many people want to forget it exists. :p

What are the most generic class names?

The only thing I can think to add is a mention of the 3E Unearthed Arcana generic classes: Warrior Expert Spellcaster For D&D, I think most classes would fall into one of those 3 roles.

    Operation: Power Level Gary

I hope you have one of these ready for yourself! Now please go use your multi-point xp powers on one of Gary's posts so you can use that pic all the sooner (and to make up for my xp to you ). Might I suggest this post. :D

What's the difference between a 'hired' cohort and a cohort received from leadership?

Actually it seems to be pretty clear about just the opposite. There are three separate times in the text about cohorts and the Leadership feat where it explicitly spells out multiple cohorts for a single PC. Let me just copy that from my post on the last page. 1) The Benefits section of the...

What's the difference between a 'hired' cohort and a cohort received from leadership?

Well that is just completely F-ed up! I think if I were in the game with that wizard, his cohorts would be killed without a trace while he slept. But yes, I can see in those cases how sharing of party treasure would not be cool.

What's the difference between a 'hired' cohort and a cohort received from leadership?

Yes, but if the cohort was helpful in the party's overall success then you're effectively penalizing the character who took leadership for helping the party win. The "leader" has effectively added another contributing member to the party- and he paid a feat to do it. If that cohort is helpful at...

What's the difference between a 'hired' cohort and a cohort received from leadership?

As I read it, technically yes, a PC can have multiple cohorts (more on this below) if he has the Leadership feat- and each of his cohorts could be entitled to 1/2 share of the party's treasure- something the rest of the PCs might have a problem with. ;) As for the multipleness of cohorts...
