Only time this came up in game it was a banana festival (it was a tropical setting.) The PCs campaigned to get their friend/pub landlord voted Banana King. We hoped it would stop him moping about and grumping all the time. We were wrong.

We have the same law in Australia. But some employers, such as the public service, have flextime. Which means you can work various hours, doing longer or shorter days, and bank the difference. My employer allows you to go up to 10 hours in deficit and bank up to 15 hours.

There's a few games I've played that can handle this sort of long term campaign. My first thought is of course HERO. I'd recommend 4th ed. Fantasy Hero. It's got everything you need to play in one book. And of course HERO allows for broadly built characters as you earn XP, but doesn't prohibit...

I remember watching the first season of Critical Role and just sighing every time yet more tragic backstory got revealed. Some players just think that that's the drama. Obviously it can and does provide drama. But other things can also provide drama.
