What makes a "bad GM" or a "bad player"?

The worst GM I've played with (once) was forgetful, arbitrary and vindictive. I played the session because it was classic Paranoia, where those qualities don't do nearly as much harm to the game atmosphere.

What is/are your most recent TTRPG purchase(s)?

I apologise if that came over as a personal accusation. That was not my intention.

What is/are your most recent TTRPG purchase(s)?

Or in other views, a week's groceries, or two round trips to visit family. I had to replace the roof of my house last year, so a book I'd likely read just once, and won't be able to use in the games I'm running, is not a very high priority.

What is/are your most recent TTRPG purchase(s)?

Thanks. Since the UK price is almost £80, I'll wait for a used copy.

What is/are your most recent TTRPG purchase(s)?

Where's that available from? My most recent purchase, last night, is Template Toolkit 4: Spirits for GURPS 4e, by Rory Fansler. He's pretty good on spirits, shamanism, and related matters. Since I'm expecting to use assorted spirits in my occult WWII game set in India, this will be useful over...

TSR The Full & Glorious History of NuTSR

A quote from a different legal case, where the defendant is attempting to delay paying the settlement, which seemed very applicable:

TSR The Full & Glorious History of NuTSR

Implying that either they aren't aware they're publishing a very low-quality product, or they don't think quality is relevant. I'm not discounting the first option; I have met people whose egos completely blinded them to the problems in their products. If they're trying to recapture the days...

That's presumably why this is published by "Adamantite Games." Of course, messing around with a bankruptcy like this may not go down well with the courts.

Why do many people prefer roll-high to roll-under?

I've never regarded it as very significant, given the vast importance of small things (biology, electronics, etc.).

Why do many people prefer roll-high to roll-under?

Did your GM not use situational modifiers? That's how you reflect the difficulty of a situation in GURPS, just as you set DCs in d20 systems.

Why do many people prefer roll-high to roll-under?

Except that varies: In BRP-family systems, Hero and GURPS, the lower the better, in general. In Pendragon, it works as you say, and exact success is a critical success (until your skill exceeds 20, then you get more critical successes). I agree that subtraction is slightly more effort than...

Why do many people prefer roll-high to roll-under?

The first TTRPGs I played, in 1979, were roll-high, being OD&D and AD&D1e. I was also exposed to roll-under Rune Quest early on, and and several other systems, varying between roll-high and roll-under. Back then, nobody seemed to feel that either mechanism had intrinsic appeal; it was a question...

RPG Writing and Design Needs a Paradigm Shift

That is an error that you see in early material, yes. Trying to do strict interpretation of D&D editions prior to 3e is not always productive.

RPG Writing and Design Needs a Paradigm Shift

All the players have a use for the rules. In most styles of play, on the GM has a use for pre-written scenarios.

Actually, this was interesting enough that the government's special-operations force brought him in. We asked questions and it rapidly became clear that he was hiding something. When asked to deny specific allegations, he wouldn't, protesting that as an Abbot he was above all this. So the head...
