D&D 5E (2024) How's the adoption of the new Goliath types going?

I’ve little desire to play any of the new variants, and I refuse to run them as giant descended, just as I refuse to run Dragonborn that way. They’re both independent species. But I have no issue with running Goliaths of all types as simply a species with many presentations due to a primordial...

D&D 5E (2024) How's the adoption of the new Goliath types going?

30ft teleport twice a day? You still need stairs and doors. Maybe higher walls in defensive architecture. Not much else.

D&D General Homebrew Witch Class ideas +

Both have great ideas! Thanks. I’ll poke at the idea more next few days.

D&D 5E (2014) Convince me that the Ranger is a necessary Class.

The original D&D Ranger was a warrior, not a subclass of anything much less the thief. What are you on about? Ranger has never been a rogue subclass that I can recall, in anything but video games.

Judges Guild Makes Statement About Goodman Controversy [Updated]

Lol people who dislike meatgrinder CharGen don’t need to be in control all the time, or we wouldn’t be playing TTRPGs in the first place. See and that is what I want more than any specific mechanics. I want a well made “old school dungeon crawler” using relatively simple and rational mechanics.

Judges Guild Makes Statement About Goodman Controversy [Updated]

Yeah that was what I was worried might be the case, but hopefully they come through this not “owning a Nazi bar”, as it were. Free League has a good rep for a reason. I will have to check them out. Sorry, possible misunderstanding. See, I understand the mechanic and its purpose. Understanding...

Judges Guild Makes Statement About Goodman Controversy [Updated]

I’ll check it out, thanks! I’m curious about Dolmenwood, and I think that with chargen houserules I could enjoy Shadowdark. Yeah sensible math and some customization at CharGen are important to me, so I’m glad to see that OSE has advanced rules that hit those marks. Dragonsbane I’m unfamiliar...

Judges Guild Makes Statement About Goodman Controversy [Updated]

I was curious about DCC. I don’t have the patience as someone who never played pre-2e D&D to pick that up but DCC seems a good way to experience old school play without the mechanical oddities of OD&D. Anyone know a good alternative that is fun and not owned by a company I’ll feel guilty for...

Judges Guild Makes Statement About Goodman Controversy [Updated]

I know that’s right! Hah! And the bad actors love to blame everyone who reacts negatively to their bad faith actions and words for the toxicity. Of course. It would be lovely to be able to celebrate all the people and products that helped build the foundation of our hobby without celebrating...

    What Good Are Spells, Anyway?

lol yeah. Currently the character sheet has room for a list of traits but half the front page is the skill list. Page 2 is for background and contacts and such, and then details of traits are 3+, with printable extra pages for techniques in case a character has a long list. I do think that I...

    What Good Are Spells, Anyway?

I have run into a very thorny question as I iterate on my game, Crossroads. What to do with spells. The question, here, is should the game include ready-made Techniques at all? Currently spells can be gained as traits or improvised as skill checks or as complex rituals requiring multiple...

    D&D 5E (2024) [HOMEBREW] Ranger Ideas +

I have built a class named Slayer, which is part assassin and part ranger, but I wonder if the “guardian” part of the ranger is fit to be a whole class. The Warden was a 4e class, a primal defender. I wonder if the basic mechanic of the Hollow Warden could be turned into a core class mechanic...

D&D 5E (2014) Dragon Age lead says Baldur’s Gate 3 and Clair Obscur prove publishers wrong as games can crush market trends is they’re “given time to cook”

DA2 is IMO the best written story of the franchise. The gameplay is more like Inquisition than it is like DA:O, which disappointed me the first time I played, but grew on me over time. With cosmetic mods, it holds up surprisingly well to this day. in terms of mods it is not quite as open as...

[+] A City Made of Towers, Thoughts On Worldbuilding

In terms of worldbuilding principles and goals, It serves some additional practical purposes, as well. First, “The City” as it is often called serves as the trade capital and crown jewel of the Commonwealth, though not its actual political capital, which is absurdly placed in my home town of...

[+] A City Made of Towers, Thoughts On Worldbuilding

When I thought of Nea Thera it was initially in the context of imagining Bridge Town, as a place shrouded in humid darkness roofed by the infrastructural roots of a grand glittering jewel of a city above. A place home to forgotten people slowly being changed by the thaumotalogical waste energy...

So, perhaps the Druid is a better wizard to compare, though even the Druid has more blasting than I’d give the witch. The witch i might make better at rituals by way of a curated list of spells that gain the ritual tag. The wizard is as powerful as it is because of its spell list, primarily...

Less common but growing in number are private merchant vessels moving goods under contract between Earth and her orbital cities and slowing...

[+] A City Made of Towers, Thoughts On Worldbuilding

Those streets are, if you don’t look too much past your close environs, much like the streets of any other city, with whole neighborhoods, market districts, entertainment districts, and large city parks, nestled atop platforms that never take up more than 1/8 of the circle of the city, and are...
