D&D General Why do good monsters exist, from a game design standpoint?

They don't work in the way you think they work though I'm afraid.

I understand. My viewpoint is different from yours, but I get the viewpoint of that poster, and yours. I understand your logic, it just doesn't fit in with what I like. I appreciate your ability to accept that others might not like the things that you do.

D&D General Why do good monsters exist, from a game design standpoint?

The question being asked isn't wrong. You're answering a question, but you're presupposing that your answer is the only correct answer, which suggests to you that asking the question is wrong. Your answer is valid... except for the part where you think it's the only possible valid answer.

    What's Your Price Limit?

$40 is a pretty specific number! I get what you're saying though. What is that wows you? You got any specific recent examples?

    D&D General Self-Defeating Rules in D&D

If you think a fireball will cook a turkey, I'm guessing you UberEats instead of doing your own cooking? 😬

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

That's pretty much the point I was making.

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

The one expression I get over and over is: "I have a doubt." In Canada, in it's place, we would say: "I don't understand this... what do you mean?" The other mannerism that took some getting used to is the Indian head wobble. Once you know, you're good. Until then, it's super-perplexing.

D&D General The Player's Quantum Ogre: Warlock Pacts

I've read several in this thread. Are you sure you're not looking for an explanation that lines up with your head canon rather than with what is plausible?

D&D General The Player's Quantum Ogre: Warlock Pacts

Welcome to my list of favourite posters. In honour of this post, I'll shout out 'boner!' at my next team stand up*. * This may or may not actually happen.

D&D General The Player's Quantum Ogre: Warlock Pacts

Refer to my post immediately above this one. These things don't happen on an equal basis (IME at least). In any case, the larger discussion is about character abilities being in the hands of the DM. In my opinion, classes designed this way (or individual groups deciding that class abilities...

Are you ready for some Football (Americano)!

I sound like a Bills-stan in that last post. I'm not, I promise!

Are you ready for some Football (Americano)!

That's a bit facile (although, yes, sometimes true). Occasionally, the team needing the comeback is on the business end of an extraordinary set of accomplishments by the opposing side. Henry and Lamar were monsters in this game. Were the Bills perfect up to that point? Nope. Were they awful to...

D&D General The Player's Quantum Ogre: Warlock Pacts

I appreciate your response, but it seems to have been formed deep in the cold waters of your stream of consciousness :) If you could rephrase that in a form that is understandable to those not inside your head? I'll respond to the bit that I could make out. Whether it's a wash or not is...

Are you ready for some Football (Americano)!

Seriously though... I've been a Bills fan for over 40 years. I literally picked them based on geographic proximity... I knew zero about the NFL at that time. The early 90s... wide right... I was there. Time (and more specifically, the wisdom its passage imparts) has taught me to not get amped up...

Not at all, hence me linking to 'Reductio ad absurdum'. The situation you're responding to is/was much more likely to happen than the scenarios you're offering up in comparison.

About the 30 year old sci-fi series? Or about the HOA stuff? I live in Canada where this widespread US-centric HOA concept doesn't exist. Thank jeebus... this sounds like every Karen's wet dream. The making me feel old conversation? You are as young as you think or feel.

I'll be taking solace in that Bills win though. Wow. In the immortal words of Alaina Getzenberg at espn.com:

Thanks for the thoughtful response. "You reap what you sow" is actually a valuable life lesson. In this scenario, your brother's response was well justified though. Your counter-response was spot on too.
