    Showing love to our enablers

My wife is supportive, though she is far from a gamer. She doesn't understand nor cares too. She buys me no gaming gifts. She does, however, let me do whatever I want with gaming and spend whatever money I need without saying one word... I play with my son, and she's very supportive of that...

    Alternatives to Dungeon Tiles?

Weem -- paint swatches -- brilliant! I will do this as well.

Vote for the best dungeon tiles accessories!

I really like using these, but secondarily to battlemaps, printed e-skelton and other .pdf maps, and especially Starship Troop Floorplans (comes with 8 terrain maps that can represent snow, plains, jungle, rock/caves, desert/mountain, swamp, beach, and lava fields. To me, the nature and city...

    Alternatives to Dungeon Tiles?

I use primarily battle maps mixed with lots of printed out e-adventure and other .pdf maps/buildings/rooms. But I also often use these in combination with the *highly recommended* Starship Troopers Floorplans. These floorplans come with four reversible battle maps of general terrain (8 total...

    Critical Hit additional effects?

I have never used official critical hit random effects, but often I will add a little fluff to the description of the hit. If my PC specified what part of the enemy he targeted -- like yesterday's crit hit on a cyclops when my PC's first attack specified that he shot an arrow at it's eye -- I...

    Critical Hit additional effects?

Let us know how it goes, will ya? Celebrim - I'm just copy/pasting it over to the House Rules forum... if there is a more appropriate way to do this so I don't have multiple threads, please let me know. (Thanks)

    RP reward

I like the general objective of the OP and will try something similar in my game to encourage role-playing. I also like the idea of giving them powers similar to their character's which emphasizes that these are rewards for "playing/being" their character. My campaign has a ranger, fighter...

    um... Korea?

I know this is pretty hopeless, but thought I might as well try. Not only am I in Korea, but I'm Ulsan, not Seoul. Busan isn't too far away either, maybe Daegu. I'm DM'ing several kids' classes. I'd like to join an adult game as a PC. Any gamers interested?

What Do Your Kids Think of D&D, and How Do You Handle It?

One of the fun differences b/t the adult game and my son's game: When we see that 80 foot pit with slim at the bottom and skeleton bones, we know that this is something to avoid. We plan accordingly, roll, and usually succeed. We've been here before. My son's game: "Oh my god, those...

What Do Your Kids Think of D&D, and How Do You Handle It?

I started playing with my eight year old a couple months ago (and some 12 year old friends). I really didn't know what to play, what might be too dark, confusing, etc. I ended up going straight for 4e b/c D&D was basically the only rpg that I knew -- and I wanted to play D&D. I was hoping...

What Do Your Kids Think of D&D, and How Do You Handle It?

I like your idea, if the kids are up to it. DM'ing 4e for me (who hadn't even played RPG games since AD&D) was quite a task to accomplish. I had to learn a lot. Took a lot of time. My son is also 9, so no, he ain't ready. But I did think about that ... as much as I enjoy participating with...

What Do Your Kids Think of D&D, and How Do You Handle It?

I played daily for a few years - 20 years ago in middle school. My son is nine, and after spending tons of money buying him D&D miniatures to play imaginary LOTR with, I thought, why don't I actually *play* D&D with him. I play with him and two 12 year old friends. They *LOVE* playing D&D...

new DM, trying to figure out maps, dungeon tiles, graph paper

great tips everyone, thanks. I've printed my dungeon tiles .pdf's and glued them on chipboard (one sided so I more easily see what I have without flipping everything over). I bought black poster board that has pretty heavy ridges in it (a little like this Handmade Paper | Ridged Paper |...

new DM, trying to figure out maps, dungeon tiles, graph paper

After a 20 year break, I've started playing D&D again, this time DM'ing for my 9 y/o son and two friends. It's been so fun to see their wide-eye excitement - everything has been going great! What I'm getting real hung up with is when and how to best use battle maps, dungeon tiles, ol' pencil...

Stuff I want (From you 3pp People)

100% correct -- but primarily NOT in the dungeon. Also, while Dungeon Delves is levels 1-30, I wonder how ofter levels 20-30 are used? I'd like to double up on those 5-15th levels. And to reiterate what many have said, if you had a couple 8th level encounters/situations, one might be in a...

    Book of NPCs 2.0

I downloaded it again -- apparently the first had a crit failure. This download if complete! This was useful, now incredibly so. I've been using this to pull important NPC's, but also many times to pull many monster stats for this new, time-stressed DM. Thanks again.

    Lazy Dm needs NCP list

I agree. I actually printed out a few of the more important NPC, and they deleted extra aspects I won't use as a DM for the additional NPC or monsters so that they could fit on one page (for Orcs, I got them to 1/2 page)

Stuff I want (From you 3pp People)

I agree. I would love a packet of pages that you could give to the players - handouts really. Make the game slightly more dimensional.
