    D&D 5E (2014) 5e pdf question

The Lion's Den Fight Club app has a few places that people have made xml files for all the current content. I've made a few myself for custom content.

    Uneasy Partnerships

There is a lot of money going through the Kickstarter ecosystem and the two stores that I've talked to say business has seen a decrease. This may mostly be board games but when profit margins are thin, the reduced revenue has a large impact to the bottom line.

    GM's Knowing the Rules

I think your Minimum Viable Product for fun is much lower than others. The goal of ensuring your players have fun is much more complex than hosting a marathon. Each player has a different idea of fun and you game has to work across multiple player types as well as work with the characters they...

    Uneasy Partnerships

People say that and then do something different. Every game store has to deal with a different business model for their location (rent and traffic vary). The Los Angeles area rent is too high to allow for a large part of your space to be free play space. Kickstarter is hurting the retail...

How do you get to GURPS?

I'm not going to argue the simplicity of this. But the 3 and 4 rules is broken into two groups, you can always roll defense rolls, but other rolls won't succeed. This isn't really that far off of people who think that rolling a 1 or 20 on a skill check or saving throw are auto fails or auto...

    GM's Knowing the Rules

Rules knowledge isn't as important during the session. Rules issues can be brought up in between sessions and settled. Sometimes things that look like rules issues to the players is the result of something the GM is allowing for that NPC. Consider the point that some times the players nor...

How do you get to GURPS?

I choose the system I want to play because it brings things to the table that other systems do not. It's a false choice to say complex versus simple, because once character creation is out of the way GURPS is no more complex for the player than any other system. The choice of system is what is...

Games That Changed How We Play

Might be Tunnels and Trolls. I cannot remember if there were classes.

Traveller 5th Edition Reprint Is Kickstarting

I really enjoyed the GURPS Traveller books. The book on interstellar trading goes into the high detail expected in GURPS source books and I've used it in other games as well.

What Gilligan’s Island Teaches us About Dungeons and Dragons

I'm pretty sure GURPS has this covered with Science! (Bang or Wild Card skill) If you are not familiar, when the skill has an exclamation point it becomes cinematic where groups of skills are all rolled up and there are fewer limitations. https://gurps.fandom.com/wiki/Wildcard_Skills

    5E Kingmaker

And here I was hoping someone had converted the Avalon Hill board game Kingmaker to D&D. Fight the War of the Roses with sword and spell. Kill the heirs and then resurrect them back again. Powerful nobles using Lancastrian and Yorkist princes as pawns to gain power.

Podcast #43: Why is D&D So Popular?

In general it's easier to say you are playing D&D then trying to explain which system you are actually playing. Partly because of the cartoon, partly because most of the people outside the hobby don't know about all the internal hobby differences. I'd rather be playing something else than D&D.

Eat This, It's Good for You!

Let's not forget Nethack where food management is key for keeping the game going. And some corpses are safe to eat and some are not. You can also get tinning equipment to make a tin of meat from a corpse. Some magical creatures imbued you with effects when eaten. Eat a Leprechaun and...

    Who Killed the Megaverse?

And here I think this one says it best about the differences between Science Fiction and Fantasy Role Playing http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-M23FN2CYRu8/T96b0O5tBWI/AAAAAAAABWg/ob4xkkUxewo/s1600/foglio1.gif

    Who Killed the Megaverse?

I'm surprised that the only mention of cross genre RPGs is Rifts when both GURPS and Hero System predate Rifts by 4 years or 1 year. As for RPGing in the Metaverse I just don't like the d20 system in modern settings. I prefer point based games (Hero or GURPS) or something else instead of...

D&D 5E (2014) Waterdeep: Dragon Heist - Which Season is the Best Story Arc? [Spoilers]

I also ran it with all villains in the Summer. The whole chase scene is ridiculous as there are many ways a group of 3rd level characters can mess with the moving of the Stone and I did something completely different and much more like a It's a Mad Mad World movie where every group was...

Dragon Heist as a prologue for Ravenloft?

I would not recommend Dragon Heist unless you shifted away from giving the players the inn which would make them believe they were going to use Waterdeep as a base of operations for a time. You might consider the Adventurers League modules set in Waterdeep for this adventure. Those are more...

New monsters book for Dungeon Fantasy Roleplaying Game

GURPS is definitely complex on the character generation and world building but less so on players. 3d6 dice, targeted skill numbers, opposed rolls, and different levels of modifiers for how complex you really want to get.
