    D&D 5E (2014) Player Flavour, Skills, & Money Sinks

I'm about to go to bed, so I don't really have too much time to reply. But I felt like I needed to address one point: You were asking for feedback on your ideas. For the record, I'm 98% happy with 5E, and I don't think your ideas are particularly good for my campaign. I feel they'd slow...

    D&D 5E (2014) Player Flavour, Skills, & Money Sinks

Rules as written, nope. For a paladin, you get to prepare spells from your class list. So your paladin would have four spells from that list - those are your options, but you might not always use the ones on your list. In addition, once you take your sacred oath, you add spells to that list...

    D&D 5E (2014) Player Flavour, Skills, & Money Sinks

I haven't noticed that. We don't use point buy, though. But the gear is different, and no one has the same class features. But I'm assuming you mean that two fighters will be similar? To me, that's a feature, not a bug, but your tastes may vary. Again, this is a difference in taste. I...

    D&D 5E (2014) Scaling the number of off-hand attacks?

Except you've said, a few times, that you "punish" players for not knowing stuff that their characters should know. That, to me, is not a fun way to play. I've been in those games. I'll pass. But I agree with you - you should make the game challenging. Absolutely. But "Challenging" is not...

    D&D 5E (2014) Scaling the number of off-hand attacks?

Yikes. Why not give players the benefit of the doubt, and point out when things are happening in game that they haven't thought of? I don't really like the idea of a GM "Punishing" PCs. That implies superiority; if a GM is coming from a position of superiority, it's really not fun for...

    D&D 5E (2014) Unseen Servant, fun with

I fully agree. Better yet, a chainsaw, but let's not get silly.

    D&D 5E (2014) Unseen Servant, fun with

So, in regards to strength requirements. A strength of 2 or 3 is pretty damned low - assuming a medium-sized servant that can lift 30 pounds, it's not going to have a whole lot of impact power. Lifting a bucket of water, sure - but throwing it? Harder. I work as a carpenter. I'm the small...

D&D 5E (2014) Rogue Sneak Attack frequency question

Hunh. I never noticed that part of the class feature. Neat 17th level class ability - makes the thief slightly more interesting as a class choice. If initiative timed out right, the thief could get 4 sneak attacks (at 9d6 each!) in one round. Not bad at all.

    D&D 5E (2014) Dungeon Magazine-like source?

I try to plant the adventure rumours in the adventure, but have them all come from different sources (and not have one source feel like it must be followed). If I do use the "king asks for help", I have the king propose two or three different adventures, so the PCs don't feel forced into a...

    D&D 5E (2014) Attunement

In a first edition game I played earlier this year, my 7th level fighter was under the influence of a potion of heroism, and then drank a healing potion. It was only the second time in the GM's twenty odd years of running 1e that he had to roll on the table. Nothing major happened (I don't...

D&D 5E (2014) Rogue Sneak Attack frequency question

Yeah, a turn is a set of actions - an action, a bonus action, and moving, with an object interaction thrown in. A ROUND is a collection of turns taken by multiple participants. So, rules as written, you can get sneak attacks multiple times per round, but only once per turn. In play, this...

    Psionics Coming Soon To D&D?

AW man, bring it on. I mean, I HATE Psionics, and pretty much always have, but seeing some attention to psionics is a necessary first step to seeing Dark Sun material...

    D&D 5E (2014) Attunement

Sure, making your own is a great idea. I want to do the same, once I have time. My own thoughts would be to weight the table towards "bad" results. "Spell rebounds, spell targets caster, spell does opposite effect, spell gates in a monster, spell teleports caster to the void, spell turns...

    D&D 5E (2014) Building a better DM's screen

My ideal screen isn't a screen, but some sort of clipboard that is easy to carry as I walk (I stand when I GM). Tables include potion miscibility, scroll failure, and a summary of all the major status conditions. Weapons (with their ranges!) are useful; I don't care too much about armour, as...

    D&D 5E (2014) Dungeon Magazine-like source?

Thanks Merric. Perusing the list right now. Good to see that there's still some OGL-like stuff out there - I love seeing weird adventures like we used to see in the pages of Dungeon.

    D&D 5E (2014) Attunement

The fix for that is potion miscibility. My players love that it's there, even though they haven't seen the table. And, just to encourage honesty, I've told the players that I have "my own table" (I don't). Seriously, that table is amazing - it makes PCs nervous every time they down a potion.

D&D 5E (2014) What do intelligent, fire elementals want?

Fire elementals want to do what fire does - destroy and consume, and in so doing, create new life. It doesn't want to stay in one place, it wants to always expand, and it doesn't want to think of itself as pure evil. Burning down a building so it can be replaced with a new one, destroying a...

    D&D 5E (2014) Dungeon Magazine-like source?

Awesome! I know what you mean about the first bit - I had a D&D blog, but then realized it wasn't covered by OGL stuff, and since I wanted to monetize it, it seemed like I could be entering into a headache, so I stopped. Ensider seems like a great idea, and could be a nice answer to one of...

    D&D 5E (2014) Help With My Dark Sun One-shot

A quick question... why Dark Sun? You seem unsure of what's in the game, beyond a few sources. And while that's fine, why are you attached to that particular setting? From what you've described, you could just do a post apocalyptic setting of your own design... and since you don't know much...

D&D 5E (2014) Princes of the Apocalypse or Hoard of the Dragon Queen

While both are good, here's another vote for Princes of the Apocalypse. I found the adventures I've seen thus far to be a lot neater, and there's room for GM expansion, which is great. Plus, it actually details the starting area, which sort of bugs me with Dragon Queen. Also, a good way to...
