    D&D 5E (2014) Dungeon Magazine-like source?

Hey all. Been a looong time since I've posted... But anyways. I'm running a new 5e game, and I've realized how easy it is to convert modules. My current campaign follows a simple format - I present three adventure "hooks" to my five players, give a rough outline of what the adventure is...

    D&D 5E (2014) Unseen Servant, fun with

Aw, man, don't even. The party bard has just realized that this spell is a ritual, and it seems he is now making sure EVERY spell he can cast is ritual-ready. Unseen Servant being able to occupy a space (but not be seen) is dangerous territory for this guy. I can imagine him doing it to...

My introduction to 3 RPGs of different styles than I'm used to.

Not sure about the definition. Because by using it, I can presume that I'm playing the role of the french when I play Risk. Or the role of the dog when I play monopoly. Or the role of the russians when we play Diplomacy (though, to be fair, Diplomacy could probably work as a LARP if done...

Is the cleric's "Channeling" ability a mistake?

The reason it doesn't do both, mechanically, is because it makes clerics turn into a no-brainer again. You're stuck spamming the same tactic - close with the undead, and then you simultaneously heal your friends and hurt your enemies. Which makes the cleric boring again. :P

Is the cleric's "Channeling" ability a mistake?

The best part about Channeling is its use outside of combat. In our game, the cleric heals 2d6 to the group at the end of every fight - they're called "greatswords of healing", because we're odd like that. End result? The party gets to face more encounters (yay for no 15 minute adventuring...

Start high, build slow HP tweak

I wanted beefier first level PCs, too, but for a different reason. Namely, I wanted a campaign where all new characters came it at first level, and that new players would have a first level character kicking around with those who had a few levels under their belt. As a disclaimer, I run an E6...

    AD&D 2E What was wrong with 2e?

Fully disagree. Much of what was in 2e was from DRAGON magazines and suggested fixes. It was a way to combine something like twelve different books into one product - remember that the 1e PHB didn't have non-weapon proficiencies, THACO, specialist wizards (besides the illusionist), or much...

    D&D 3.x 3.5e Core Book Reprint

This is a great business move, not just for the money aspects (can't fault a company for wanting to make money) but because it shows they've learned from their 4e mistakes. Remember, when 4e was coming out, the designers slammed 3rd in some pretty big ways. This wasn't like when 3e came out...

Vampire vs Farmhouse & Grey Render

I'd play with the standoff. Make it play out over days, by making the vampire have thralls (if you don't want vampirism to cross creature types, make 'em human. If you want an infected gray render, make sure you alert the pcs to this by having the thralls be creatures). This comes down to the...

What Game/Music combo does this picture make you want to play?

There seems to be a huge disparity though, in the number of metalhead gamers and the number of metalheads in the general public. This coming from an ex-metalhead, mind you.

What Game/Music combo does this picture make you want to play?

The problem with metal harpists is that they're all a bunch of lyres. :D

What Game/Music combo does this picture make you want to play?

geez, what is it with gamers and metal? I'm gonna be a game hipster, here. Council of Wyrms. Coupled with the soundtrack for Skyrim.

Its been Four Years and I'm Finally Starting to Like 4E

It's funny. I especially found myself hating 4th edition, and it became a standing joke in my group of players that I was the resident 4E hater (I ran it for 2+ years, so I feel I gave it a good shot). A few months ago, I started working on a sort of "homebrew" because I've come across...

    Dominaria: Campaign/Adventure ideas

Make each PC an agent for a different planeswalker. And have each player describe their planeswalker. Going with my earlier idea, you could even have each player hand you a 60 card deck representing what THEIR planeswalker is capable of. You could even have each PC describe their...

    Dominaria: Campaign/Adventure ideas

Hm. It's been more than a decade since I've played MtG, so consider this more of a thought exercise. But what if you just accept that it's going to run like a D&D campaign set in Dominaria? Really, I think that's a good place to start anyway, since if you get too weird, you run the risk of...

    AD&D 2E What was wrong with 2e?

I love this thread. 2e did a lot of stuff wrong, and it did a lot of stuff right. I have a lot of fond memories playing the game, and while I probably wouldn't go back to it, I think it does sometimes get the short end of the stick. I think the biggest problem the game had is its...

    Pathfinder 1E Pathfinderizing the Spellthief

A Draft For the Spellthief PRC: Pre-Reqs: * Must be able to cast 2nd level arcane spells. * Eschew Materials * Sneak Attack +2d6 * Spellcraft 5 ranks. * Use Magic Device 5 ranks. Hit Die: d8. Attack: As Rogue. Saves: Reflex and Will. Skills: 6 + Int. Combination of both...

    Pathfinder 1E Pathfinderizing the Spellthief

Doing the annoying multi-quote thing for organizational purposes. My apologies in advance! 10 Levels is doable - could make it follow the same sort of progression as the arcane trickster, which is a similar concept. Arcane Trickster is full progression, which I think is fair - after all, if...

    Pathfinder 1E Pathfinderizing the Spellthief

My thought process right now works sort of like this: * Use the rogue as a base to build off, but lose pretty much all the class abilities. The idea is that the character is thematically a rogue, but he doesn't have the things that make rogues awesome (no evasion, no sneak attack). Since...

    Dark Sun sourcebooks

Sure. Care to explain the thought process? The way I see it, the second you start releasing stuff like history of the world (especially the way they did it in 2e, which was always tied into a novel series), you rob the game of a bit of mystery. I like the idea of Dark Sun in the original set...
