D&D General What version of D&D are you playing?

Better than the presumably sunk cost of 5.0?

D&D General What version of D&D are you playing?

I get that, but 5.5 certainly doesn't do anything I want from a big picture perspective either.

    RPGs with Bespoke Colony-Building Rules

The Without Number series of games, particular Ashes Without Number, have excellent rules for building communities in RPGs (and all other forms of worldbuilding for that matter).

What Do You Think Of As "Modern TTRPG Mechanics"?

Your point of view. Plenty of games use 5e as a base even if it isn't really appropriate. Call it, "Popularity = $$$ Syndrome" if you like. I don't mind.

D&D General Weapons should break left and right

"All topics about D&D" covers all editions. It says include, not exclude.

Then you can speak for yourself, and so can they.

What Do You Think Of As "Modern TTRPG Mechanics"?

I disagree. The OSR movement started to increase accessibility to 1e (through OSRIC). The games most commonly inspiring the OSR are pretty well-regarded by OSR designers.

What Do You Think Of As "Modern TTRPG Mechanics"?

I didn't say the conflict was intended, just that it is more likely when such language is used.

But you are using the term knowing the loading is there and will be noted.

What Do You Think Of As "Modern TTRPG Mechanics"?

That may be a result of PBtA engine being a victim of " New Hotness Syndrome" (despite not actually being all that new by now). It is IMO somewhat trendy to use.

What Do You Think Of As "Modern TTRPG Mechanics"?

Monster of the Week is the only PBtA I can get behind. We're playing it next week.

    Sequel game systems?

The Cyberpunk games, certainly. Many editions of D&D do this in regards to the lore, as did the pre-FFG versions of L5R.

What Do You Think Of As "Modern TTRPG Mechanics"?

No, but I do think it has been suggested by others since.

What Do You Think Of As "Modern TTRPG Mechanics"?

Dangerous in the sense of generating conflict when your phrasing suggests one thing is objectively better than another. No one benefits from that IMO.

What Do You Think Of As "Modern TTRPG Mechanics"?

Yeah, I see a lot of, "this is better than that" thinking here.

D&D General Weapons should break left and right

Changes for balance reasons are never forced IMO, but they might be desired by individual persons or gaming groups.

What Do You Think Of As "Modern TTRPG Mechanics"?

I agree. Modern as applies to RPG mechanics means little outside of academic discussions of gaming history, and is dangerous to boot, as people tend to associate the word with quality.

D&D General Weapons should break left and right

First of all, IMO again you cannot for all current players if 5.5. Second, I believe this is a D&D General thread. I'm not sure exactly what that means, but it certainly doesn't just mean 5.5 only.

D&D General Weapons should break left and right

Who's "we" in your opinion? Just yourself and your group? Because IMO you can't speak for anyone else.

D&D General Weapons should break left and right

What they can do is let the adventurers know what happened, or keep them from running off or getting spooked. And plenty of things matter in a verisimilitudinous world beyond the dungeon. This is just another flavor of, "I don't care about that", which is perfectly fine, but I wish people would...
