World of Design: Flipping the Hourglass

When running sandboxes I'll have some local stuff semi-prepped, say within a day's travel of the PCs' current location. I'll have generated points of interest for another day or two outside of that. And I'll have a couple of locations roughly prepped in the wider world. When it comes to more...

The Mighty Nein Animated Series to Debut on Prime Video on November 19th

Yep. They've been clear about that for awhile now. The controversial death might also be altered. Not sure, but it's possible. There's not a lot I'd want them to change of the major beats, so here's to hoping they didn't go wild.

    3I/ATLAS

Neil deGrasse Tyson did a StarTalk on it. Likely several more by now. He cautioned against people replacing the “god of the gaps” with the “aliens of the gaps.” That is don’t assume aliens just because we don’t know. We don’t know. That’s the point. When we get more evidence, we’ll know more and...

    Best RPG for Arabian adventures

That's in my infinitely-long TBR pile. It does sound fantastic. Can't wait to finally read it. For the pirate angle, there's always Pirate Borg. It's a perfect resource for all things pirate, but it's decidedly Golden Age of Piracy and the Caribbean. Still, useful book to have. There's also...

D&D General Favorite Forgotten Realms products of all time?

I’m not big on FR, but this is a great book. I do love Al-Qadim and Maztica though. Set in the FR but not core. Great stuff if a bit…problematic in places.

    Spoilers Peacemaker Season 2 (Spoilers)

Peacemaker brought GI Robot with him, right? Right? Guess I'll have to catch up on Peacemaker along with Creature Commandos.

World of Design: Flipping the Hourglass

It's fairly easy to get a game session to feel like a story by using scenes, which is why so many games call out running games that way. You don't need to plot things out, only throw opposition in the PCs' way.

World of Design: Flipping the Hourglass

Yep. It's a common, if atrocious, description. Others are discovery writing or writing into the dark. Some famous and not-so-famous writers who do this are Ray Bradbury, Stephen King, Lee Child, Isaac Asimov, Rex Stout, Mark Twain, Ernest Hemingway, Dean Koontz, William Gibson, Stanisław Lem...

Critical Role Critical Role Campaign 4 Episode One +

I can't stand the combat in actual plays. Especially D&D. It's one thing to have to sit through the tedium of 10 minutes of fun stretched across 2-3 hours of play when you're one of the people actually involved. But it's a special kind of hell to watch someone else do it. When they get into...

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

If people are interested in reading about Stoics and Stoicism, I'd recommend Ryan Holiday's The Daily Stoic and Marcus Aurelius' Meditations. The Daily Stoic is a daily devotional. Each day's entry starts with a quote from a Stoic philosopher and a short discussion of that quote with modern...

Critical Role Critical Role Season 4 DM says encounters will not be balanced.

Exactly. The referee isn't going to protect the PCs from the players' choices. To me, that's as it should be. Likely from people who don't have experience with this style of play.
