    Reinventing the Wheel

So these solutions…I regularly see threads here were one poster’s solution is definitely not another’s. I don’t really agree that RPGs have been “solved”. They have certainly been changed and varied, But almost always these variations create new issues which then require new solutions.

OSR What's the best introductory BX/OSR scenario for new players and DMs?

You can run both as is, or expand with DM effort (with ToEE perhaps requiring the most effort). As for Hommlet, it is meant as a longer term base—with that effort. And, the PCs should have some shock after there first foray to the moathouse, go back to town and start looking for help. Then it...

D&D 5E (2014) Quests from the Infinite Staircase: How Is It?

Lost Temple of Tharizdun was in the same mountains and had a linked map, with friendly gnomes who could host the party between the two adventures. I did run both, albeit in Transylvania (or technically the Carpathians).

D&D 5E (2014) Quests from the Infinite Staircase: How Is It?

Interesting. I guess the first level looked smaller, or with fewer rooms at least. Still have the big”outdoor” area.

D&D 5E (2014) Quests from the Infinite Staircase: How Is It?

The Barrier Peaks ship map looks like the same crashed ship, at least on a quick inspection of the images above. But apparently there were some changes?

OSR What's the best introductory BX/OSR scenario for new players and DMs?

I guess Village of Homlet and Lost City are not as new DM friendly, though they offer strong RP opportunities and, while potentially deadly, more of a learning curve for the PCs. New DMs, don’t be afraid…

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D species article

Also not my favorite. For the classes it’s something here, something there. Probably 10% annoyance at the most. This is more like 35 to 40 % annoyance. Though at least it’s not 100%

    D&D 5E (2024) 3,000 Player's Handbooks Available At Gen Con

….or eBay, which I guess is still a thing.

    D&D 5E (2024) 3,000 Player's Handbooks Available At Gen Con

So available the next day on Noble Knight for…175?

It’s almost as if they are trying to encourage it.

D&D 5E (2024) Players Handbook 2024 Art and Design video from WotC

I was very down on the 2024 aesthetic just before watching this….not anymore! Best of these videos yet.

D&D 5E (2024) What is your oppinion of 5.24 so far?

First yes there are of lot of changes. I think we are approaching 1e to 2e or 3e to 3.5. But second, It does not feel like Next/5.0. Just no reason to be that excited. I have cleared the deck to run a 2024 game starting in September. And it could be the last that I run for this whatever it is.

D&D General Shocked how hard it is to get new players now-a-days

Use to use yahoo meetiups. Is that still a thing? Reddit, our own ENWorld. Other hobby gamer groups or cafes were there still might be the RPG curious? Or go hybrid. Or don’t.

D&D 5E (2014) Players, would you play in a multi-year campaign that used only the 5.1 SRD?

Yes. Would not mind some house rules to make all the classes a little more viable, like the first short rest of a day taking only 20 minutes.

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Player's Handbook reveal: "New Sorcerer"

The core class mechanics are still a little wonky, but they brought me back with the subclasses.

D&D General Zagyg/Gygax material approved for Troll Lord Games!

On their website they confirm the actual many layered dungeon will be coming. But one does have to wonder when.

D&D Historian Benn Riggs On Gary Gygax & Sexism

As my thread was closed…Gygax did try to rectify the over representation of male super villain figures in D&D. Or he was just into female big baddies. EGG had like 5 female behind the scenes villains in a row. Including 1 goddess , 1 demon goddess, 1 demon lord, and 1 also really into demons...

    EGG and the Demon Queens!

Oh well. This was not really about the other thread and the facts and accusations therein. It’s neither praise nor criticism. It’s that Gygax had like 5 female behind the scenes villains in a row. Including 1 goddess , 1 demon goddess, 1 demon lord, and 1 also really into demons (and one at...

    EGG and the Demon Queens!

So, picking up on that other thread on Tiamat. This ancient being of chaos was one of the few, if not the only, female unique named being in the AD&D monster manual. So the real sexism is that she was the token (and perhaps the heart) of high level monsters. But then Gygax gets to work...

D&D Historian Benn Riggs On Gary Gygax & Sexism

It took a lot of posts but finally. Versus Riggs, who would need hundreds to say the same thing.
