D&D 5E (2024) Monks and the Weapon Mastery Feat

They should add DEX to damage. That's part of the monk martial arts feature at first level. EDIT: I should clarify. The 2 regular attacks and the monk bonus attacks should add DEX mod damage. The off-hand weapon damage would not.

D&D 5E (2024) Monks and the Weapon Mastery Feat

So as I peruse the PHB more I can see monks can use scimitars as monk weapons being martial weapons with the light property to which we can add Nick at 4th level (+1 DEX too). That seems like a lot of attacks by 5th level with Extra Attack, a bonus action Unarmed Attack, and Nick. Has anyone...

D&D 5E (2024) Why is Ritual Caster gated?

It does. It also helps clerics and druids prepare even more spells. Adding rituals without needing to prepare them adds to the overall repertoire and also having an ability score boost with it is worth the level gated feat.

D&D General Warlocks: Charisma vs Intelligence

It's because you can't help yourself. My web, you're caught. ;-P Yes, language is a tool humans made. Calling it good, bad, or indifferent doesn't change the qualitative state of a hotdog as food wrapped in bread. It doesn't matter how useful it is to classify a hotdog as a sandwich. It...

D&D General Warlocks: Charisma vs Intelligence

The fact that you called it a variation of bread is proof in itself. Bread is a spectrum. That's just an argument in semantics, however. "Sandwich" is an umbrella term and "hot dog" is a specific term. All hotdogs are sandwiches but not all sandwiches are hotdogs. ;-) That's still both...

D&D General Warlocks: Charisma vs Intelligence

"Is a hot dog a sandwich or not?" is old. We should all realize by now that it's a sandwich. The real question is if coffee counts as a soup or not. ;-)

D&D General When and where did the idea of Ranger as "wilderness rogue" start?

1e rangers learned more druid spells than wizard spells and of a higher level, however; but they weren't really much for spell casters regardless. They also displayed "stealth" through the 1e surprise mechanic. While 1e rangers were capable of wearing any armor, shields, and weapons, they...

D&D General Warlocks: Charisma vs Intelligence

How does someone else (a Patron) gifting these to the warlock representative of the Wizard's intellect and study where the wizard did it themself? How so? I just compared this to almost half the other classes available and it didn't fall apart. The half the classes most similar to the...

D&D General Warlocks: Charisma vs Intelligence

I would say that the wizard isn't so much stuffed with archetypes so much as the label is over-used and sometimes out of context. Much of Gandalf is based on Väinämöinen the bard. Merlin is based on Myrddin Wyllt the bard. Ursula Le Guin based much of Earthsea on Norse Mythology and Ged sang...

D&D General Warlocks: Charisma vs Intelligence

Someone who's full of themselves with confidence and also low wisdom. ;-)

D&D General Warlocks: Charisma vs Intelligence

That sounds like a deal for power is foolish, not intelligent. ;-)

D&D General Warlocks: Charisma vs Intelligence

I voted CHA. How intelligent a warlock is has nothing to do with how the spell powers are accessed. They may have done some research and study on how to get in contact with that power but that's not the same thing as powering the magic through intelligence. The spells' power comes from the...

D&D 5E (2024) Why are weapon masteries limited?

It's because they wanted fighters and barbarians to have more masteries than rangers, paladins, and rogues. This creates some distinction among those classes with weapon mastery where fighter > barbarian > paladin or ranger > rogue in the aspect of weapons that drastically changes with all...

D&D 5E (2024) Dancing bards and true strike.

I'm not sure this makes dance bards better. Right now Agile Strikes doesn't cost any action. It's a free attack as part of the action, bonus action, or reaction in which the bard spent a bard inspiration use. That opens up the potential for the bard to use that bonus action for something else...

D&D 5E (2024) Can I get Armor of Agathys without being a Warlock?

I think Form of Dread might be good for a bit at high levels. 1d10 plus warlock level isn't that bad depending on the opponents. Mantle of Inspiration doesn't work at all. I bolded and underlined the problem part. The ability specifically calls out that other creatures are the target. The...

D&D 5E (2024) Can I get Armor of Agathys without being a Warlock?

Mantle of Inspiration only works on others and costs bardic inspiration uses. The college was significantly changed in 2024.

D&D 5E (2024) Can I get Armor of Agathys without being a Warlock?

Considering how hard it is to get Armor of Agathys outside of playing a warlock and the fact it's not OP trying to porcupine with the spell it doesn't seem like much of an issue. 🤔

D&D General When and where did the idea of Ranger as "wilderness rogue" start?

Mentioning these classes seems like an aside. I'll point out that they are going to invest in DEX regardless for the AC, however, instead of STR and that the Mountain Dwarf added medium armor for wizards and sorcerers who wanted to gain that AC in 2014. The 2024 rules no longer grant the armor...

D&D 5E (2024) Can I get Armor of Agathys without being a Warlock?

Yeah, the cleric, druid, and wizard spells are the standard lists for magic while the other lists are practically off limits. A player might access a few of the spells with feats like fey touched, shadow touched, or aberrant dragonmark but those are limited. Other spells might be accessible...
