    D&D 5E (2024) Can A Spell Caster Out Damage a Martial Consistently?

The concern I have with crunching numbers like that is the assumption that everyone takes a long rest just because the spell casters want to take a long rest. I think that's a silly assumption. If the party can ignore the better part of the 24 hour cycle required to benefit from 8 hours of...

    D&D 5E (2024) Can A Spell Caster Out Damage a Martial Consistently?

Yeah, the 9 hour long rest for using long term short rest abilities is definitely a thing. I pick up prayer of healing on bards often enough too for that faster extra short rest. As a DM, I typically tell the players when they have the opportunity to rest as opposed to the players telling me...

    D&D 5E (2024) Can A Spell Caster Out Damage a Martial Consistently?

Hi. Pleased to meet you. Now you've met one. ;-) Unlimited short rests is still a very strong word. More than two short rests often fits the pacing in wilderness or urban adventures, however.

    D&D 5E (2024) Martial/Caster fix.

I was working on point by point rebuttals, but it became lengthy so I'll just point to a few things. Your math isn't wrong but how you're applying it is flawed. There's an inherent conflict between applying the law of large numbers and ignoring those same large numbers outside of the very...

    D&D 5E (2024) Martial/Caster fix.

I just wanted to point out that at high levels a battle master can combine menacing attack with push using any weapon from tactical master to play the frighted and away game. Relentless makes it once per turn, not two free casts in a day, plus spending superiority dice can due it to up to three...

    D&D 5E (2024) Fireball is a C Tier Spell

Yeah, fireball doing some damage might cost the enemy actions at the end of combat by killing them sooner, but spells like fear, hypnotic pattern, and slow cost them actions up front. Slow is also more party friendly because it's selected targets in the area while hypnotic pattern, fear, and...

    D&D 5E (2024) Fireball is a C Tier Spell

I don't take hold person on classes who cannot easily swap prepared spells because it's only effective against humanoids. Compared to slow in the same slot it's two humanoids (hold person) vs up to six creatures (slow) so I prefer slow. On a wizard's who can easily swap spells taking hold...

    D&D 5E (2024) Fireball is a C Tier Spell

Yeah.... I gotta say that Fireball is definitely not a general go to spell for me. It's a go to spell for damage spells at that level but that's not the same thing.

    D&D 5E (2024) Best Classes 1-20 5.5 vs 5.0

I think a bard's lack of defensive abilities hurts them in this comparison. I'm more inclined to go with paladins and rangers because of their martial capabilities at lower levels and their spells to support it as they level. And warlocks for their invocations and spell support if they make a...

    D&D 5E (2024) Fireball is a C Tier Spell

Damage spells in general are typically not as effective as action denial because of the high hit points monsters have. IME That doesn't mean fireball or other damage spells don't have their uses. Calling fireball C-tier or average isn't the same as calling it a bad spell. It's often not the...

    D&D 5E (2024) Multiclassing as feats:

I like subclasses that give flavor of other classes and I also like feats that replicate some ability of other classes. I wouldn't use a generic feat, however. I would use a specific feat for a specific ability to help keep it in line with other feats and not step on other classes too much.

D&D 5E (2024) Working on ideas for my next character.

I understand that. I'm going to swing it by my DM anyway. Otherwise, I'll just go with the net and rope then switch to the two weapons on subsequent rounds.

D&D 5E (2024) Working on ideas for my next character.

Why would a person have to untangle a net to tie them up in rope? Being restrained is the condition required to tie them up so creating that condition and then removing that condition seems counterproductive. What do you think of the name Nick Fisher?

D&D 5E (2024) Working on ideas for my next character.

Depends if I can talk the DM into allowing it. If not it costs me that one off hand attack. I would allow it. Manacles are also a possibility. If I used a whip I'd probably rip off Indiana Gnome somehow.

D&D 5E (2024) Working on ideas for my next character.

Aldridge B. Hex was eaten by sharks and will no longer be inspiring people to overcome their fears. I'm toying with the idea of a rogue next. I'm thinking of using a forest gnome going thief and using a net as the main weapon and a nick weapon as the offhand, and later a rope as a bonus action...

D&D 5E (2024) Can A Spell Caster Out Damage A Martial Consistently "Archer"?

Under "Activating a Magic Item" in chapter 7 of the DMG this would be referred to as "casting a spell from an item". Under each wand description it will read "While holding the wand, you can cast one of the spells..." or something similar like "charges to cast..." According to the language the...

    D&D 5E (2024) Martial/Caster fix.

Duplicating the spell includes duplicating the restriction. That's why it becomes a semantic argument where I think both interpretations can be considered RAW based on how we interpret duplicating a spell. If it looks broken then it's okay to say "no" to the players either way. That's why the...

    D&D 5E (2024) Level 2 Cantrip Master.

Right, so hopefully I'm not misunderstanding what you're saying here. Here's the language in more detail... So if it's a warlock those spells are added to the warlock spell list for that character. If it's a bard those spells are added to the bard spell list for that character. If it's a...

Unearthed Arcana Here is the list of plans for the 2025 UA artificer for a closer look...

The rules read to me like only a hag coven or an artificer can create a hag eye, lol. It fits the criteria. I'm leaving on the list and letting DM's make their own ruling on that rather than argue it.

I think I got them all. The items are all from the UA and the 2024 DMG. There's some stuff in there I would only use for RP purposes, but there's also some good stuff.
