D&D General 5E species with further choices and differences

my point is unless every species has it's own dedicated species feat slot for that 'something extra' it's going to be competing against the player picking ASI and class feats, it's the same problem feats already have but with another layer of selection to filter them out.

D&D General 5E species with further choices and differences

alternatively, they could also just be part of their innate features and locked behind a level threshold rather than the price of a feat, it's not like the 24' designs haven't started dipping their toes in 'at X level your species gains Y', mostly it's just been uses of higher level innate...

    D&D General Should you Multiclass?

it is a nice abstract isnt it? :ROFLMAO: though honestly it's really not as complicated as it appears, mostly you're just following the path you're on one node at a time, which primarily are either just minor stat boosts or single abilities, and some of the paths intersect at points.

    D&D General Should you Multiclass?

Okay, some clarification please, I feel like at least one of us must be misunderstanding the other here, you don’t want single class characters eliminated in a system that allows point buy feature multiclassing right? If this is so then i must ask why you turned around my proposal of characters...

Unearthed Arcana WOTC still can't get the backgrounds right in the new FR book.

no, i didn't. edit: no let's answer this properly, there's no good reason why your guard has to have alert as their designated background feat or can only be strong, intelligent or wise, there's no reason my guard couldn't of been charismatic and got along really well with the civilians with a...

Unearthed Arcana WOTC still can't get the backgrounds right in the new FR book.

yeah it's almost as if these fixed background-ASI-feat combos are counterproductive to producing flexible character design.

    D&D General Should you Multiclass?

suppose it depends on if you're trying to encourage or limit 'multiclassing' in that kind of design structure.

    D&D General Should you Multiclass?

i mean, i don't think it's impossible to have something like that in a point buy system, just add a rule that says something to the effect of 'if you already have X number of [warrior/mage/expert/priest] features subsequent [warrior/mage/expert/priest] features will cost Y points less' unless...

    D&D General Should you Multiclass?

that is not what i am suggesting and also i think it fundamentally fails the task to be multiclassing due to lacking anything resembling actual classes. there's nothing fundamentally wrong with point buy character building but please recognize some people actually like using classes.

    D&D General Should you Multiclass?

Oh, and for those who don’t know what it is or how it worked take a look below, all your characters progressed along those various pathways one node at a time at each level buying new abilities and stat boosts from the node you were currently on, certain paths were essentially a class...

We should adapt a 5e version of FFX’s sphere grid.

this is why i prefer standard array or point buy, or at least pooling the resulting roll arrays so anyone can use any of them

i don't know if it's worse or now when they're then allowed to succeed on those checks because 'the GM thought they RP'd the conversation well'

D&D General Has Tiny Hut actually affected your game? Or has it otherwise mattered?

i feel like that's a rename that happened for tone, given the pseudo-medieval setting DnD has, it makes far more sense that the people in such a setting would name their magical elements after natural phenomena they are familiar with rather than inventing the modern-technical terms we're used...

D&D General Mike Mearls says control spells are ruining 5th Edition

oh yeah i wouldn't object to rituals being one option in a list of per INT features, alongside stuff like fighting styles, tool proficiencies and languages, for people who didn't want magic on their character. i know magic initiate and ritual caster exist but it still costs a feat one way or...

D&D General Mike Mearls says control spells are ruining 5th Edition

It’d be a neat idea if everyone just got a number of free rituals known equal to their INT modifier (swappable on level up, availability based on character level being treated as a fullcaster spell access, so a 5th level fighter could learn a 3rd spell level ritual), it’d increase the usefulness...

Unearthed Arcana WOTC still can't get the backgrounds right in the new FR book.

This far into the franchise’s life i think tying specific ASI to any part of character creation is something we can drop and move past, floating ASI were working fine...enough, and if the designers want something to make character creation options balanced and distinct from each other, well...

D&D General Has Tiny Hut actually affected your game? Or has it otherwise mattered?

Personally I interpret force as like, raw untyped magic damage, a pure energy sort of thing rather than the type of kinetic force of weapons and such, I do agree force is probably a little overused and slapped on too much stuff as a ‘we don’t want to deal with considering resistance’ pass by the...
