    My "Savage" Experience

I know some people have that experience. I can only say mine is very different and combat moves along at a nice clip for our group.

That sounds like another bad habit people learn from playing CRPGs with a central protagonist character and a cast of supporting characters.

    My "Savage" Experience

I think Savage Worlds supports the ‘5 room dungeon’ model quite well since that isn’t usually about a grind. But more involved ‘dungeons’ than that are tricky. Quick Encounters are definitely something to lean into when wanting to have lots of encounters. If I am running a dungeon-style...

    My "Savage" Experience

I really enjoyed running Eris Beta V for my group. It was written for Deluxe and the previous Sci-Fi Companion but would require almost no conversion to run with SWADE and the new Sci-Fi Companion. The first half of the campaign is quite open with lots of events for the PCs to get involved in...

    My "Savage" Experience

I can see this could be politically sensitive. Switching out encounters perceived as a ‘waste of time’ could be seen as disparaging the source material and clearly neither party wants that.

How open are you to trying new systems?

I voted ‘somewhat open’. I bought and read a lot of RPGs looking for the perfect system for many years, and realised this was a fairly futile exercise. I found a system which is nearly perfect for me in Savage Worlds so that urge is dialled right down, now. I still keep an eye on new system...

For those who have embraced new systems/games, what was the deciding factor?

The main reason our group would choose to play new systems is where our existing system(s) are not hitting the mark in supporting the campaign we want to run. That might be a more ‘macro’ level where we want to play sci-fi and our current system is fantasy, or it is more a ‘micro’ level where...

    Dragonbane general thread [+]

I think the more ‘sword & sorcery’ vibe of Dragonbane means it’s totally cool to have fewer but more unique and dangerous monsters. I haven’t got the game to the table yet but I get the feeling that Dragonbane adventures are not going to be a series of ‘level appropriate encounters’ but rather...

    Dragonbane general thread [+]

The problem is that they defined reactions as consuming your action, and then every time this isn’t the case they have to list an exception. But my reading is that only parry and dodge consume your action and every other reaction seems to be a ‘free’ reaction. If they hade made ‘does not consume...

Presentation and Rules Are Different Things

Thinking about this a little more, the layout of Exalted makes it completely unintelligible to me. How the different levels of headings and sub-headings are formatted is totally illogical in my mind. Which is a shame, as it’s a game I would really like to try.

Ideas for a new game in the D&D genre

Pathfinder for Savage Worlds AKA “Savage Pathfinder“ is my personal go-to for fantasy adventure RPG action these days. It is well supported on VTTs and there are a couple of adventure paths already converted to the system with another to come shortly. It’s not for every table or every campaign...

Presentation and Rules Are Different Things

To the OP- there are definitely games where this is the case for me and my group. I am a fan of JRPGs personally, but most of my group are not. There are some cool, JRPG inspired games with great mechanics but people bounce of the presentation when they try to read them.

    New generic contemporary/urban fantasy?

Savage Worlds Horror Companion would give you all the tools you need to run an urban fantasy game. It covers the spectrum from completely mundane characters stumbling into ‘things man was not meant to know’ up to vampires and werewolves (who may or may not be vying for the affections of a...

Diamond Comic Distributors Files Bankruptcy, Sells Alliance Game Distributors

Any initial view on what the impact of this will be, @Morrus? Do they distribute RPGs for many publishers? Do they tend to be the primary distribution channel in certain sectors? You are much more informed on this sort of thing than us consumers.
