Yeah, I don't see the big deal about having a +4.5 or +4 with a marker next to it. It's not super elegant, but I think it's more elegant than ability scores.

I stopped reading this thread at about 20 pages and was wondering how it had made it to more than a hundred. I approve one reason is the search for extra-terrestrial intelligence.

Good old 3E greataxe critical hits for triple d12+4 on a 1 HP monster.

An idea I like is having no critical hits, but instead having "procs" on magic weapons that make them do something extra when rolling high enough. A lightning sword might do extra electric damage on normal hits, but on a nat 20 the lightning jumps to additional targets.

I don't personally have plans to play it, but I might buy a copy as it's pretty cheap and I enjoy looking and sometimes scavenging rules from various systems. My current group thinks we're playing Pathfinder 2E, but I'm running a AD&D module and lots of what's happening behind the DM screen is...

I think at least all warrior type classes (barbarian, fighter, paladin, ranger etc.) should by default be competent at fighting from horseback.

That's just a Cloaker with a high Charisma score.

In Pathfinder 2E, the Cavalier's mount grows in power and the Cavalier can use a reaction to make an attacker strike the Cavalier instead of the mount. Doesn't solve the problem of having a character built for not being in dungeons in a game about being dungeons, though.

Maybe the class could have some minor bonuses for mounted combat, but mostly focus on general combat that works both on or off the mount, code of conduct and other knightly things. That way it's not a big deal when you have to leave the horse outside the dungeon. Eric didn't even have or mount...

Since I got my own copy of the book I've seen him as that editon's cover. His legs seem placed quite forward here, which lends me to believe he'd be in some trouble trying to stand unless he had a second pair further back.
