Shadowdark RPG: An Interview with Kelsey Dionne

This system seems to be doing a lot of stuff in a similar way to how I'm doing my homebrew system.

    D&D 5E (2014) Sorcerer experiment - your thoughts?

I was thinking of adding miscasts to get rid of tracking spell slots (or rather spell points, which is my current method), but with nasty stuff only happening on a natural 1 and perhaps just minor annoyances on a regular failure. Since I also use both a spell casting check for the spell to even...

    D&D 5E (2024) A simpler game is a better game...for us

Could be a thing to have a basic Player's Handbook without feats or subclasses, and a set selection of skills for each class. And then an Advanced Player's Handbook adding more rules and mechanics by introducing subclasses, feats and skill choice options. This way, the basic game can have a...

RPG Evolution: What If the D&D Movie is a Hit?

I've always imagined it similar to this MtG card image: And very much like the blur effect on characters wearing a Cloak of Displacement in the Baldur's Gate CRPGs.

DMs Guild Weapon of choice: Feats for every weapon on D&D 5E

I'm wary of feats related to specific weapons as it undermines the moment the adventurers uncover a new weapon - which statistically is highly unlikely to be the exact weapon you happened to specialize in. It feels bad having invested into feats only to have them become unusable. Conversely...

What's Your "Sweet Spot" for a Skill system?

For my homebrew system I've been considering various methods. First a freeform skill system where there's a bunch of suggested skills, with the option of players proposing new skills to the GM if they want something not already there. So essentially unlimited skills. But since one of my goals...

POLL: Is how you Roleplay influenced by your character’s mental stats?

I use them partially, but there's a lot more to a character's personality than what can be summed up by a few numbers.

    AD&D 2E On AD&D 2E

I think it's reasonable an experienced adventurer could discern roughly how hard an opponent is to hit after making an attempt at it. So you can reveal the AC when they make their attack. They are still subject to the randomness of the die, after all.

    D&D 5E (2014) Solasta - is it worth playing?

I also didn't realize they've added cooperative mode. I'm pretty sure that didn't exist when I played it. I suspect it's harder to play that way since you have independent PCs who don't always coordinate or agree on the best course of action, rather than a hive mind.

    D&D 5E (2014) Solasta - is it worth playing?

My main complaint of the game is the Remorhaz model. Yikes! Best creatures were the minotaurs. Excellent model and animations.

    D&D 5E (2014) Solasta - is it worth playing?

I liked it a lot. The dialogues were a bit cheesy, so it's mostly for the tactical experience, in my opinion. I played it on authentic mode and generated characters using 4d6, drop lowest (no re-rolling). I made a team consisting of the main archetypes. Had a fighter with great stats, a cleric...

    Just discovered Castles and Crusades

A hilarious quote from the Castle Keeper's Guide on character death. How does the Castle Keeper evaluate if a player has become too attached to their character? And how would a player go about reducing attachment once caught breaking the rules by being too attached? :D My charitable guess is...
