D&D 5E (2014) What are the Roles now?

I think it might be nice if there are some distinguishing characteristics which could be observed, but they aren't necessary. As a character's hit points increase, for example, they don't get bigger or fiercer.

D&D 5E (2014) What are the Roles now?

Multi-classing gets it done in my opinion, but I'd rather have the elf class back.

D&D 5E (2014) What separates a sandbox adventure from an AP?

The destination itself can be changed or replaced with another in a sandbox. Railroading occurs wherever and whenever it does. You can't just take it all out.

    D&D 5E (2014) Are DMs getting lazy?

Yes, that is another way. Thank you.

    D&D 5E (2014) Are DMs getting lazy?

Because it will take longer, and therefore the players will get more use out of the game.

    D&D 5E (2014) Are DMs getting lazy?

    Is this controversial?

    Advantage/disadvantage and critical hits/fumbles

I don't think it makes quite enough sense to be a good rule, but the natural 1 should be a fumble if the natural 20 is a critical hit.

Game Systems that Allow Skill Resolution with No Roleplaying

I really like that kind of encounter. My D&D players would have assumed it was a monster and attacked it. I don't think any of the rules should prevent this kind of encounter.

    D&D 5E (2014) Are DMs getting lazy?

Part of the problem is a heightened impression of official content. As many as 9 out of 10 of the adventures you could buy over the years could easily be exceeded by most of what your own DM could do if they wrote their own. Another part of the problem is too fast level advancement. It should...

    D&D 5E (2014) Adv. League: What's in it for a GM?

I guess the biggest incentive is to bring new people into the hobby. If the game store doesn't have any events, ask if you can run your own. If you are willing to commit to running the event at a specific time each week or something, you might help bring people to the store regularly. The...

D&D 5E (2014) What kind of adventures would you rather see for 5th edition?

Traditional adventures. I don't mind a long adventure path, because I can always edit out anything I don't like. It's nice to see a lot of extra material at my disposal in any case. I want to see traditional characters, monsters, and scenarios, though.

D&D 5E (2014) What separates a sandbox adventure from an AP?

I am in the process of finishing a sandbox adventure path right now, so the two terms aren't contradictory. Each adventure is broken down into a scenario, with one or more missions. The players are free to do whatever they want to win, in whatever order. Each adventure has areas that "may be...

    D&D 5E (2014) Out of Combat Woes

Using skill checks can feel very gamey. I'd recommend just letting players talk things out. This should help them get into character, too.

D&D 5E (2014) What separates a sandbox adventure from an AP?

A sandbox creates the edges of where the PC's can go, loosely, and lets the PC's go wherever they want in whatever order they end up choosing along the way. It's kind of the opposite of a railroad, though any goal the PC's find can be compelling enough so it will effectively be a railroad at...

D&D 5E (2014) What are the Roles now?

The basic roles that speak to a well rounded party are still one warrior, one rogue, one priest, and one wizard. The warrior has the endurance and the weapon skills to fight multiple opponents, the rogue has the expertise and the contacts to bypass defenses and work angles to learn things only...

D&D 5E (2014) can warlocks be good guys?

Try not to jump to conclusions about what someone says, and be honest about what you consider to be a fact.

D&D 5E (2014) What are the Roles now?

The heroes in fiction can always hit and kill their enemies when the writer says, and this is typically instant or almost as quick. Does Drizzt Do' Urden need to wait for his turn, or roll to hit? No. He gets to go right in and outperform any D&D warrior for the most part, and so do most...

D&D 5E (2014) What are the Roles now?

Fiction happens. D&D puts you in the role of the character, and too much power and ability would take away challenge and over-shadow other players unless they also get as much. D&D, as much as it does let you become like Conan or Hercules, or Merlin or Gandalf, it does better for an ordinary...
