D&D 5E (2014) What are the Roles now?

The classes themselves are the roles, and they tell you everything you need to know. The game still bases everything on cleric, fighter, rogue, and wizard, too.

D&D 5E (2014) What are the Roles now?

The story drives the game. Every character will do what is required of them.

D&D 5E (2014) What are the Roles now?

Giving characters a combat role is a mistake. The classes are all you need.

"Tabletop D&D Has Lost Its Way" Says Pathfinder Video Game Exec

The problem is for Wizards of the Coast, their approach has been about the rules. With each edition they managed to publish, 3rd Edition through 5th Edition, they have re-designed the rules. Obsidian seems to think 3rd Edition was from TSR, though.

"Tabletop D&D Has Lost Its Way" Says Pathfinder Video Game Exec

Obsidian would not have decided this lightly. I couldn't imagine more shocking news.

"Tabletop D&D Has Lost Its Way" Says Pathfinder Video Game Exec

The die has been cast. 5th Edition just doesn't offer enough continuity or vision for the future. For Pathfinder, they know what they're doing and that's what Wizards of the Coast should clearly have been doing.

D&D 5E (2014) how to run long distance travelling without it sucking

I think you need to tell us a little more about what you want on the journey. Decide how much challenge you want, and decide what you like. Don't repeat what you know you don't like.

    D&D 5E (2014) Loss of genericity

It is more concentrated, but with some work any class can bring out the flavor you want. Don't be reluctant to change anything you wish, literally.

D&D 5E (2014) New DM let Player Die, now what?

Putting it to a vote is a bad idea because it can hurt someone's feelings if they have to hear the other players choose to disallow their character's return. It's not right to let anyone else decide this. You as DM need to make a simple decision. It's your call, and your call alone.

    D&D 5E (2014) What is Over-Powered?

They need to be very careful with this, because if missile fire becomes superior it will ruin D&D. You have to be more effective really, not just equally effective, in melee to justify using a sword.

    D&D 5E (2014) What is Over-Powered?

This is a very good answer. In terms of variability and more scale, I have to say you may be on to something. But I want the monsters to have randomly rolled hit points, with low minimums and very little bonuses on their hit dice. I like the possibility they have more than average, too.

Best dungeon crawl adventure of all time

I3-5 and I6 are great, but T1-4: The Temple of Elemental Evil is what I've heard most to be the best dungeon crawl. It's in the mega category. I'd recommend Prism Keep, by Rich Baker, from the pages of Dungeon magazine, and Thunder Under Needlespire by James Jacobs if memory serves.

    D&D 5E (2014) What is Over-Powered?

Okay, but let me put it like this. If the average damage for a hit is 4 in AD&D, but 15 in 5th Edition, that is 3.75 times as much. So would you be okay with 6th Edition making the average damage for a hit 56? What is stupid about 56 then, which could be balanced just as easily, but which...

    D&D 5E (2014) What is Over-Powered?

I'll start with brutal critical. In making recommendations, I am only putting a little of my own preferences into them. I know I said I am writing these because I'd enjoy the game better, but that's what it would do for me. I am trying to suggest things other people would like, too, and...

D&D 5E (2014) Give Me Three Reasons to Play Mystara/Known World

    1) It has a country for every different culture including elves and dwarves, Viking barbarians, and all the different empire builders. 2) Not many know any of the canon. 3) There is a ton of source material available including for a setting within a setting, the Hollow World. (The planet is...

    D&D 5E (2014) What is Over-Powered?

Play-testing was done by Wizards of the Coast involving the public. I wouldn't call "the results" of running a rule at one table play-testing.

    D&D 5E (2014) What is Over-Powered?

AD&D is at the foundation of 5th Edition, and it was at the foundation of both 3rd and 4th Edition. The games were also sold as new editions of both AD&D and D&D, in the same sense that AD&D was a new edition of the original. If I believed 5th Edition was a whole new game, which didn't need to...

    D&D 5E (2014) What is Over-Powered?

The spell list needs a lot of attention, but let's discuss criticals. For me, there is nothing quite like the critical hit. I am so pleased that 5th Edition brought back criticals on a natural 20, instead of demanding a reroll to confirm it. Simply put, barbarians would be the envy of the...

    D&D 5E (2014) What is Over-Powered?

I would not playtest such ideas before implementing them. I would try them and see what happens. If you mean to suggest that I am only offering suggestions, you would be correct.

    D&D 5E (2014) What is Over-Powered?

You know, I am here and it is rude of you to talk about me in the third person like this. How do you know I don't play 5e? My recommendations are not ranting or yelling at clouds. They are all very light recommendations, which may add more substance and verisimilitude to the game. It is hard...
