D&D 5E (2014) Which easier to remember (for you)? (On Saving Throws & Spell Durations)

Specifically ends on a save. But AD&D certainly did have all those variable lengths.

D&D 5E (2014) Which easier to remember (for you)? (On Saving Throws & Spell Durations)

This actually goes back to 3e as a nerf (and you had to track rounds, so very 3e). But yes saves. If its on your character, you have an incentive to remember!

OGL: Kobold Press 'Raising Our Flag' For New Open RPG

Talents, I think, are part of char gen, though could also be feat replacements. In any case we have (at least) 2 competing paralel playtests to for the next "evolution" of 5e. From the latest Black Flag Update Email:

Kyle Brink (D&D Exec Producer) On OGL Controversy & One D&D (Summary)

Actually, you are saying all this. He certainly did not say it was just a "tweak". What a waste of time if it was. But people can listen to the interview and draw their own conclusions.

Kyle Brink (D&D Exec Producer) On OGL Controversy & One D&D (Summary)

There was a lot there. Behind it all does seem to be the Disney version of the owlbear. But as I said in other threads, at least this was all over something important. He danced around calling out the other faction--the not his team--that seemed to be driving the proposed OGL and still look...

D&D 5E (2024) What are the top 3 things, above all else, you want from One DnD?

So I am doing 5, as it’s still 5e… 1) fixed monster/encounter math (I think we will mostly get this) 2) nerfing this and boosting that to get better balance across options (again this will happen, hopefully enough) 3) Giving 1 and 2, otherwise keeping as much core 5e assumptions as possible...

    D&D 5E (2024) Where is the new OneD&D playtest?

They should release a playtest packet that is really good, and shows that they have actually been taking on past survey feedback. That is definitely their best option.

Experiences growing up a fan of Fantasy, Sci-Fi, Roleplaying games, etc.

Was the early 90s a low point in mainstream fantasy fandom? Maybe, though it could still be cool to be into vampires, certain comic books, jrpgs annd 40k in certain circles …and the geeky subcultures were always there. But then things really did change.

D&D 5E (2014) Amazon US book sales rank.

Vault is $30 on both Roll20 and D&D Beyond (digital). Book-beyond bundle is $60. Presumably a lot of sales are or will be going through these.

    D&D 5E (2024) So Will 'OneD&D' (6E) Actually Be Backwards Compatible?

The numbers in the book often don't match that table in the DMG, and are frequently lower. There is also the bigger issue of encounter building and stuff per day, which almost certainly will be touched on. But there is also MM math. Preview? You mean in some recent book(s)? They have also...

    D&D 5E (2024) So Will 'OneD&D' (6E) Actually Be Backwards Compatible?

If they don’t fix the MM monster math, this is a total waste of time.

    D&D 5E (2024) So Will 'OneD&D' (6E) Actually Be Backwards Compatible?

Oh there will be all sorts of nerfing. But if you have the old PCs with the new nerfs how will that go? And will it be compatible?

    D&D 5E (2024) So Will 'OneD&D' (6E) Actually Be Backwards Compatible?

Define compatible…. math and terminology will be generally compatible, but much will be different in the details. Most 5.50 PCs > 5.0 PCs. Same for MM monsters.

OGL: Kobold Press 'Raising Our Flag' For New Open RPG

"Regardless of what comes, Project Black Flag maintains core compatibility with the 5E products you already know and love, but with a Kobold spin." They see a chance to make BF the 5E PF, and are going for it! Which I think is great. Very much looking forward to it.

The importance to RPGing of *engaging* situations

Variety and pacing. If its a huge exciting combat after huge exciting combat, at some point it won't be so exciting. Knowing that sometimes what is very engaging for one player may not be engaging for the rest. And just keeping it interesting. In fact, one things I have seen so many times is...

    Rary's Replay of the Past

I would not underestimate the engagement of Pepa Pig fans. But isn't WotC running the show now? The new CEO moves from Seattle to Rhode Island and forgets the fan base? In any case, obviously someone made a big mistake.

OK, so what does a D&D creator do now?

Owlbear is owlbear. In practice there is a huge overlap in the material you would actually use across all the SRDs. Unless you want to copy chunks of other OGL games, it’s probably easier to just do it under the 5.1 cc srd.
