D&D General Whom keeps the torches lit?

If they’re lit in a dungeon that I am running, it’s by inhabitants who need the light. I’m confused by your initial statement - if you’re the DM, you aren’t “noticing” that a lot of dungeons have torches lit, you’re deciding to make it so. If you’re a player, then ask your DM about it. If...

D&D 5E (2024) Paizo Abomination Vaults on Dndbeyond!

That’s one way of looking at it. At the height of the OGL fiasco, I made a thread arguing that if WotC really wanted to gatekeep D&D they shouldn’t worry about trying to control all of 5e and thus pissing everyone off, but should instead use DDB to control anything associated with their D&D...

    Are Ghosts Real? (a poll)

Let’s change tack here. Science doesn’t attempt to prove hypotheses, it attempts to disprove them. So how do we test the “ghost” hypothesis? What specific predictions does it make that we can measure and check?

    Are Ghosts Real? (a poll)

I am saying that there is no definition of what a ghost is, so there is nothing that could count as evidence towards their existence or non-existence. I'm not sure what evidence you think a cameraphone would provide. I suppose I'm not making my point clearly enough: without a quantifiable...

    Are Ghosts Real? (a poll)

Sasquatch's, sure. Seems pretty unlikely that something like that could exist without some credible evidence surfacing long before now. Ghosts...what would even count as evidence?

    Are Ghosts Real? (a poll)

Good for you, and that's not being a killjoy, that's being rational. Also, Von Daniken's assumptions were extremely racist as well as being ludicrous, so double good for you.

    Are Ghosts Real? (a poll)

Why not ghosts? Because they aren't even coherently definable. Like, a Sasquatch claim we can do something with. There's zero evidence, but at least there's a testable claim: a hitherto undiscovered family (in the biological sense) of large primates are dwelling in the forests near where I...

    Are Ghosts Real? (a poll)

Ghosts are not alleged to be qualia, ghosts are alleged to some sort of distinct entity arising from a dead person. Equating the objective claim of "ghosts are real" to the subjective experience of "I am in love" is a massive category error. One is a shared knowledge claim that needs to be...

Purple Dragon Knight Retooled as Banneret in D&D's Heroes of Faerun Book

Even though taste is subjective, “Purple Dragon Knight” manages to be an objectively dumb subclass title, so I’m glad it’s gone.

D&D 5E (2024) No way to end Rage on your turn with 2024 rules?

I didn’t suggest either of those things, so I’m not sure why you’re quoting me?

    Are Ghosts Real? (a poll)

Further, ghosts and aliens are very different concepts. Aliens/UFOs are testable phenomena in principle, so assuming that the particular claim is framed coherently (rare), then this becomes a burden of proof issue, and Sagan's "extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence" applies...

Dhampir and Other Species To Be Included in Astarion's Book of Hungers

Well, one of my players is currently playing a Dhampir using the existing rules, so I don't see a huge need to spend that much money for an updated version.

    Are Ghosts Real? (a poll)

Ghosts aren’t even a testable hypothesis. Folks can and will believe what they want, but no one can even offer a scientifically coherent definition of what a ghost is (the OP certainly does not) so arguing about their existence is as meaningful as arguing about the existence of unicorns and...

D&D 5E (2024) No way to end Rage on your turn with 2024 rules?

Because nothing says raging barbarian like strategic use of bonus actions in order to facilitate the seamless transition to scholarly wizard. To me, that combo is way too game-ist, and so I like that the rules don’t encourage it.

Maps Feature on D&D Beyond Becomes Free to Use

I have well over 100 uploaded to Maps on DDB. I note that there is a limit of 10 GB worth of maps that you can upload, but given that I have gone all out and only managed to use 7% of that I think I'll be good for awhile. And that doesn't include the maps that are included with adventures and...

Maps Feature on D&D Beyond Becomes Free to Use

I presume that you would also be able to use maps that come with free adventures, like Frozen Sick (my favourite mini-campaign for newbies)

Maps Feature on D&D Beyond Becomes Free to Use

Well, no, you could still use it with the free content on DDB. Maps is really good; much easier to use than Roll20. With a master tier subscription , which I considered an incredible bargain before maps ever existed, it’s amazing.

D&D General Dnd is a 10th level game, how's the balance?

Aside from a one-shot, the highest a campaign has gotten for me with the 2024 rules is level 12. Overall balance is best after about level 7, when casters catch up to martial classes, who tend to dominate at low to mid levels with increased utility and much higher DPR. If you're playing a full...

    Old shows that you enjoy?

My son and I rewatched all three seasons of The Monkees a few years back. I absolutely love it. Also a huge fan of The Twilight Zone and Gilligan's Island from the 60s, and Logan's Run from the 70s.

Critical Role's The Mighty Nein Reveals First Look, Season 1 to Air on November 19th

Oh god, I hope they don't do a whole campaign of Age of Umbra. What a slog.
