Is a dying character still bloodied?

It seems clear to me that a dying character is still bloodied, however this is one of those things that some people just don't agree in. You won't reach a consensus on this one. I've seen it argued for many pages in past threads.

Campaign Standards: Slavery yea or nay?

I think it's fine to use, but don't start your players off as slaves... I've been there, and it certainly wasn't fun. Slavers should also tend to be the enemies, unless your group likes moral conflicts. I would tend to use them in a less civilized and more lawless areas, or in cultures that...

Powers and abilities that grant a bonus after a Roll

I think the answer is to go with the option that the group finds fair and fun. It's just not very fun to have this conversation with your DM: DM: "Sorry, your Daily Power missed." Player: "I have an encounter ability that lets me add another +1 to my roll..." DM: "well you can try to use it to...

    Dr Who RPG

I definitely liked "Sally Sparrows" as well. I wouldn't mind her being a companion one bit.

Wizard Spellbook, Daily Preparation, and Utility Spells

The rules are explicit on this. It may seem strange, but yes, the spell you prepare for the day might be an Encounter or a Daily spell but you can only change which is prepared during an extended rest. It's a shame Wizards don't get any At-Will Utilities, like some classes, heh.

Chaos bolt: Max 3 attacks or infinite?

Having character features that allow you to reroll a die or add a small bonus to it after the fact can help increase your chances of getting more randoms in a row though. If you are in LFR, you can beg for a few +1's here and there too.

Which 16 array would you recomend

Restricting characters to 16's has the effect of heavily discouraging (or punishing) certain choices of races or builds. Random rolls has the potential to prevent a player from being able to play the type or build of character they wanted to play because they weren't able to roll the right stat...

    PHB prices on Amazon

Yes, the market has spoken, and it said: "4E is still in print." These greedy retailers jack up the prices on lots of out of print items, and most of the time you can still find them elsewhere at a reasonable price. I hope you are aware of this already, but this holiday season of good will...

Why don't 3e and 4e use percentile dice for skills?

In the example of blowing up the complex, that shouldn't just be a random result of the die but something that would be an event (or possibility) planned by the DM, or if the players come up with a very valid plan to do so that the DM decides to go with. I'm strongly against the notion that...

    Delinking role with class

That's certainly fair and one thing I considered as well, though the swashbuckler really isn't about the stealth and thievery aspects of a rogue, but more about the showy and flashy combat moves, fancy footwork, and other things that I was envisioning borrowing from a rogue. I haven't sat down...

[?] Battlestar Galactica the board game

Insults involving "Skinjobs" can also be appropriate. I've only played once, but I had a lot of fun. It's not something I could play all the time, and I could see people getting emotional, stressed, and maybe bitter temporarily in this game, but it really is fun.

    Delinking role with class

I think taking hybrid builds, and maybe tweaking them a little bit and reflavoring them might be a more reasonable way of accomplishing this. For example, maybe take a rogue and a fighter, mix them together, maybe tweak it a little bit and create a basis for a swashbuckler defender type.

Do you take powers without a build specific benefit?

It's tough to say. I like to pick powers for various characters for different reasons. For example, the character I'm playing most is a Wizard that I wanted to be weather themed, so I concentrated on the majority of my powers being Lightning, Thunder, and Cold based. It just so happens that...

DMs sure can make life hard... :(

Your DM is definitely being unreasonable. I'm chiming in with the chorus of folks that say you should try putting on the DM Cape. You understand the importance of the game being fun and fair, and that alone puts you ahead of many DMs. I will say that I don't particularly approve of posting...

    Who ruined D&D's Rep?

I can't believe not one person brought up Jack Chick and his Dark Dungeons comic! When I was a teenager, I had family who thought that D&D was satanic because of this guy and others like him.

3E & 4E Love and Hate Polls - What does it mean?

What's the correlation between love and hate of 3E and 4E and choice of beverage? Is another poll in order? ;-)

3E & 4E Love and Hate Polls - What does it mean?

Your comment about feeling like you are fighting reskinned fighters really sums up the way I felt about various monstrous humanoids. It's true that that the 4E entry skimps in some details such as that Orcs use the ownership of females to display their status and what the percentage of roles...

3E & 4E Love and Hate Polls - What does it mean?

And you still didn't produce any numbers in those posts that addressed what the actual sales were, taste tests, annual sales for that year, or all of the other things that were addressed. You don't have to tell me about the terrible reputation the campaign had, or how there was a lot of media...

3E & 4E Love and Hate Polls - What does it mean?

So you are saying that the OGL allowed more options to fill the gaps in what you didn't like about 3E, but there were less gaps to fill than 4E for you? Well, that's fair, but it sounds like that even if the OGL was in place for 4E, you probably still wouldn't be satisfied with 4E. Maybe I'm...

3E & 4E Love and Hate Polls - What does it mean?

What I'm saying is that the mechanical differences and what is described by the DM's are all the player sees. Details that are in the MM that don't come into play mechanically and aren't described by the DM aren't going to be noticed by the player. And in fairness, they didn't discard all the...
