D&D 5E (2014) Do you think we will get an Oriental Adventures setting for 5th edition?

People will complain about anything lol. A lot can go into a name, I've yet to see many cultures beyond Europe and the Mediterranean really really done well in a game setting.

D&D 5E (2014) Do you think we will get an Oriental Adventures setting for 5th edition?

Mine was that even if you called it 'Asian Adventures' you would do a disservice if you didn't include the myths of the whole real world continent of Asia. We do use Norse and Nordic though in some settings don't we? I always find it odd how some things are used and others aren't but some...

D&D 5E (2014) Do you think we will get an Oriental Adventures setting for 5th edition?

It is a whole continent, but it also includes so many cultures I doubt you could cover them all adequately. Eastern Asia is what most think of when you say the old "Oriental Adventures" name.

D&D 5E (2014) Do you think we will get an Oriental Adventures setting for 5th edition?

Yeah I would just use Wuxia, brought over from movies I believe and that way it is associated with a type of 'fantastical' setting already. There are several different cultures to borrow from under that even, Chinese myths and legends are way, way, way different than Japanese ones.

D&D 5E (2014) Working on a Wood Elf Fighter/Rogue archer, with a likely 15-level cap, looking for suggestions

I understand wanting the feats, but why not Ranger instead of Fighter? You could roll into hunter and get a lot more out of your archery that way. Favored enemy will give you some tracking bonuses for when you are scouting. Stealth at normal pace in favored terrain. Fighting Style Archery...

    More level-up choices to take?

I think I disliked the drive to have to achieve certain levels and 'must take' certain feats to unlock a class that I was interested in now, not in 5+ levels. All the current archetypes unlock by level 3, which is nice.

    D&D 5E (2014) multiclass (prestige) subclasses.

Did you see they made Swashbuckler into a Rogue archetype? I think it is a really well done one. http://dnd.wizards.com/articles/features/unearthed-arcana-waterborne-adventures I like not having to worry about multi-classing for these now, it is just a branch of a main class. Sometimes it is...

    More level-up choices to take?

Yeah, I think a lot of the old prestige classes could be converted to the archetype system as well fairly easily, which I hope WotC do as well. Someone had mentioned bladesinger once, easy enough to make it different from EK by having it use more sorcerer based abilities/spells than wizard. I...

    More level-up choices to take?

Someone on another forum mentioned that they could be a more 'AD&D' style addition system to 5E, but I wonder if that would only lead to confusion in the playerbase? We are already playing the 'non basic' version (basic being labelled the free 5E). Do we call just the core books then the 'Core'...

    More level-up choices to take?

That's fine and all and D&D usually gains more options as the edition progresses, but one of the things they have stated they want to curtail was 'splat bloat', so you might be disappointed for quite some time. Unearthed Arcana offers more choices, but again those are rather slow to come out...

    D&D 5E (2014) Char Ops forums: Something I wish hadn't come over.

Everyone has fun in their own way, find people that have similar views as you and enjoy but don't dump on others for playing the way they want to.

    More level-up choices to take?

This. There is always multi-classing, which for some reason with 5E seems to be some sort of taboo. Feats are good for variance, but I find that too much 'crunch' and not as much story leads to boredom just as easily.

    D&D 5E (2014) multiclass (prestige) subclasses.

I will go to what I always think when I try to come up with something like this... Will it nullify an existing class/feature/ability? To me this nullifies archetypes. You could just make a bladesinger archetype that builds off of fighter or wizard in the same way as an eldritch knight does...

D&D 5E (2014) Do you think we will get an Oriental Adventures setting for 5th edition?

Here are some things you can get a bit there... Pg 41 DMG - Wuxia and Wuxia weapon name chart (converts longsword to jian and katana, etc) Pg 264-265 DMG - Honor System (useful for Samurai Bushido etc) Most other things are common since flavor conversions. A monk is straight forward...

D&D 5E (2014) Anyone Ran Harried in Hillsfar Yet?

I've been thinking about moving it to Greyhawk, somewhere in the Bandit Kingdoms or down in the Scarlet Brotherhood areas. I tend to like Greyhawk better than Forgotten Realms though when it comes to "generic fantasy", but I'm an old grognard lol. I'll let you know if I run it, sounds like a...

Have you messaged him about it? It doesn't do any good if you don't tell him about your idea. He runs the website on his own and is a freelance artist who goes on the convention circuit too, I will tweet him your idea and see if he responds.

D&D 5E (2014) Do you think we will get an Oriental Adventures setting for 5th edition?

Yeah UA post maybe, but isn't most of the stuff in the existing books? You can use the existing backgrounds easy enough and there are conversions for weapons and an honor system in the DMG?
