I Spoke To Frank Mentzer About His Empyrea Setting For 10 RPG Systems!

As a long time Greyhawk fan it's great to get more content for that planet, even if it isn't "official" in the strictest sense.

Frank Mentzer reveals more details on Worlds of Empyrea

Amazing talk, seems like Frank has lots of plans.

Setting or System - whichever applies to you?

I'm more setting than system. A good setting like my old favorite Greyhawk can be played in a variety of systems (currently going to be the new Dungeon Fantasy GURPS) and still feel the same. I have homebrew settings I've used with many systems too. Depends on if the players are down with it...

More Info On Frank Mentzer's Worlds of Empyrea

Yeah, I'm sure they want to avoid all direct links to Greyhawk (even though WotC seems to ignore it as a setting now) because of IP issues.

I'm going to keep an eye on this, could be interesting.

Critical Role Delve into Critical Role's campaign setting with co-writer James Haeck!

I've looked around the web to know that 'new DMs' are constantly asking what adventure to run as a newcomer. Most point them to the starter set (lost mines) and that is fine, but it can be daunting for a new DM to start fiddling around with things too much. If Crit Role's goal is to get more...

Critical Role Delve into Critical Role's campaign setting with co-writer James Haeck!

They have a big following, but there are other streams that have a lot of interesting things. HyperRPG for one has a ton of RPGs, not just one. Roll20s twitch channel has stuff on all the time with a big following too. Many of those folks were featured during the big "Tomb of Annihilation"...

Critical Role Delve into Critical Role's campaign setting with co-writer James Haeck!

It all depends on the adventures released after, if there are any. Many first time DMs might buy this book and think they can use it but then if there aren't any adventures set in it they will have to adapt normal 5E adventures, which are already set in FR. I would be interesting to see what...

Critical Role Delve into Critical Role's campaign setting with co-writer James Haeck!

So it's high magic, standard races, mostly classic tropes but the big thing is social culture differences that mirror what a perfect real world is? Seems the only difference is the resurrection rules to make it a bit more risky? (which is added to lots of streaming shows to create onscreen...

D&D Beyond Launches on August 15th for $3-6/m

Convenience item mostly. After looking at what it can do I'm not sold on it. Books cover this, other games just give out PDFs without charging you monthly. Doubling down the cost so you get a fancier PDF seems dumb to me.

Can Hobby Stores Make Their Saving Throw?

In more rural areas where a local gamestore is the only alternative to Amazon it is a hairy prospect to keep a game store afloat. Even in smaller cities the market is small and thus a store owner has to compete not against other hobby stores, but the ease of online retailers. Table space is the...

The New D&D Adventure Is - Tomb of Annihilation!

So for me it's a big Hepmonaland expansion for Greyhawk lol. Xanathar's guide could be interesting, but I'm wondering how much content will be in it that isn't in the UA articles and how much has it changed. (Swashbuckler didn't change that much from UA to SCAG). Some of these streamed games...

Age of Sigmar RPG Coming From Cubicle 7

I didn't mind the first edition magic system since it was easy for even a new player to comprehend. The lack of spells were solved with supplements later and I liked that magic was more of a rarity in that era of Warhammer rather than the norm as it is in so many other Fantasy settings. I...

Games Workshop And Cubicle 7 Announce Warhammer Fantasy Role-Play 4th Edition

That's wonderful, I hope they can capture that spirit in this new iteration. Hopefully it is configured in a way that makes it easy to digest for new players as well. I know getting new folks into 1E is not always the easiest unless they have a bit of knowledge of GW's other IPs.

Games Workshop And Cubicle 7 Announce Warhammer Fantasy Role-Play 4th Edition

Based more on the first two? Awesome. I'm an avid fan of first edition and hope this will fit in nicely with that while bringing new folks to the game.

The New D&D Adventure Storyline Will Be Announced On June 2nd-3rd

I just hope that if they keep rehashing enough of the Greyhawk content that we get Greyhawk opened up for DMsGuild just like we had Ravenloft opened up with Curse of Stradh.

[UPDATED] WotC & Goodman Games Partner To Reprint Classic Modules for 5E

This will be a buy from me, both for the fact that I like the originals and the fact that Goodman Games makes really good stuff. Now we just need to have Greyhawk open up for the DMsGuild....
