Druid passed their 70% approval "floor", and Barbarian passed 80%.

Echo is damn good, like almost too good for Marvel

This show feels like a gift. If forced to complain, I think some characters got underserved, but I understand stuff got scrapped when they switched from a 6-episode plan to 5.

Ben Riggs: 'The Golden Age of TTRPGs is Dead'

Riggs' forecast sounds like a parallel of the collapse of pop monoculture we've experience in the past generation or so. I think what he's describing is inevitable, at least to some extent, for some of the same reasons the pop monoculture collapsed.

    Shadowdark Shadowdark looks so good!

Got my copy of the core book book just in time for Christmas, and it's a beaut! There's so much to love in this. The layout is set up so that each page or two-page spread is one topic or sub-topic. The art is very reminiscent of early D&D art, in the best possible way. The random tables are...

What are you reading in 2024?

When I first started reading it, I thought maybe it wasn't for me. The author is telling their journey as a professional into discovering what trauma is and does. He started in the late '70s, dealing with Vietnam vets and their war trauma, and that's why I thought maybe this isn't about me...

What are you reading in 2024?

Working through The Body Keeps the Score: Brain, Mind, and Body in the Healing of Trauma, by Bessel van der Kolk. This has been a real eye-opener. Decalog, the first of three Doctor Who anthologies from the '90s, all telling one big story. Haven't made it very far, but I'm enjoying it so far...

Vote For The Most Anticipated RPG of 2024!

Tales of the Valiant was an easy first choice. Mt weekly group plays D&D 5E, and I'm trying to introduce options from other 5E stuff I think will improve play. I love the concept in Cohors Cthulhu, and I've wanted to try the 2d20 system (for more than a session or two) for years. Will I...

WotC WotC - why are we still shocked with layoffs?

Corporate thinking is the weirdest thing sometimes - why would you lay folks off across the board, including from the one division that's doing really well?

D&D General Tips for Using Paper Character Sheets

Amen to this. I find the focus and layout of most 5E characters sheets befuddling. I've gone to the trouble of making my own in InDesign, but I haven't finished it because there's nothing like designing a character sheet for a system to make the things you don't like about the system into...

D&D General Tips for Using Paper Character Sheets

We used to use just regular scotch tape over the HP area. The kind of tape with a matte finish, because you can write on it with a pencil and erase it.

Doctor Who 60th Anniversary Specials [[SPOILERS!!]]

My theory? It was Kate Stewart. Well, the 10th Doctor was The Doctor Who Regrets, so I think it's on-brand that he just can't let go.

D&D 5E (2024) I'm a longtime player and there really is only one thing that will stop me from switching to 5.X

I won't walk away from D&D unless my group does. That said, I won't be buying the new core books, and I dropped my years-long DM subscription on DDB to the free level. There's so much 5E content out there that does things I like more than how WOTC does them, and more on the way, that I just...

    D&D 5E (2014) Doctors & Daleks - Cubicle 7 Brings Doctor Who to D&D 5E

I got the pdf of the players book for US$25(?) as soon as it was available, and even though I haven't actively used anything from it yet, I absolutely do not regret that purchase.

    D&D 5E (2014) Doctors & Daleks - Cubicle 7 Brings Doctor Who to D&D 5E

I'm super-intrigued by this. I haven't looked at the Doctors & Daleks encounter builder - can you give us a basic description of it? Oh, right - I just meant to say that's how Quips are introduced in the book - but in a standard fantasy approach they could just be a part of backgrounds, or just...

    D&D 5E (2014) Doctors & Daleks - Cubicle 7 Brings Doctor Who to D&D 5E

The player's book has a bunch of stuff that would be pretty easy and really interesting to port into a standard 5E game. I'm thinking of Quips (they're like cantrips, all about being clever, influential, etc.), Initiative order (talking happens first!), and Plot Points (instead of Hit Points).

MCDM's New Tactical TTRPG Hits $1M Crowdfunding On First Day!

I have fully dug into the details of this system, but it looks like characters start out with an array of class-based features, and then those core features get improved as the character levels up, rather than getting new features. Do I have that right?

    Unpopular Geek Media Opinions

    TTRPG Gaming Resolutions 2024 Edition

Actually, in 2024 I want to lean into writing, layout, and copyediting/proofreading work in the biz. Anywhere in the general creation and publishing end of things is the longer-term goal.
