D&D General Cthulhu by Torchlight Brings Mythos To D&D

Cthulhu by Torchlight was just announced on Treantmonklvl20's Patreon channel, because he helped work on it (mostly on subclasses, some on monsters) with Mike Mearls, who is the lead designer on this book. This book, which is now newly available on DnDBeyond, combines Call of Cthulhu and 5th...

D&D's October Product Revealed to Be Stranger Things Tie-In

My daughter is a Stranger Things fanatic. We've been to a Finn Wolfhard concert together, where we also met McKenna Grace, and had tickets to a Maya Hawk concert, and met Grace Van Dien who played Crissy. This might be the very thing to convince her to play D&D (the first crossover RPG didn't do...

Eberron: Forge of the Artificer Delayed Until December

Game store health is crucial to the long term health of the industry. Game stores are a primary gateway for new players, primary gateway for new DMs, and their success in the long term helps all game consumers. So yes, it's in WOTCs best interest and the best interests of gamers in general to...

Eberron: Forge of the Artificer Delayed Until December

Yes, he's saying some people don't care about that big picture reason, don't care that game stores are a gateway to new players and critical to the health of the industry, and just want their digital access because that's all they care about.

Eberron: Forge of the Artificer Delayed Until December

You don't screw every game store in the nation because gamers who game online want their stuff earlier. They're absolutely right to delay both releases.

D&D General Weapon Mastery - Yea or Nay?

That's totally fair. Having yet to play 2024 in-person, and playing it only on Foundry and Talespire so far, surely biases my view on some things.

Wizards of the Coast Reveals Revised Eberron Species Details

Khoravar rogue can get true strike as a species trait, allowing them to select a different background feat like Lucky. Nice! Yes I know there was already a High Elf option for this, but a different choice is good. And, well, yeah it's a half-elf. About time.

D&D General Weapon Mastery - Yea or Nay?

Getting it all automated in Foundry has helped a lot. Now they're cool. Like spells.

D&D 5E (2014) Sorcerer vs. Wizard: Anything You Can Do I Can Do Better?

Yes it's a non-magical spellcaster class. Spellcaster meaning a class operating essentially off a slot system which increases with levels, and the slots are used to use a power which controls something, or damages something, or heals something, etc... This just looks like a melee based non-magic...

D&D 5E (2014) Sorcerer vs. Wizard: Anything You Can Do I Can Do Better?

Yeah I got that. It's basically a caster disguised as a melee character.

D&D 5E (2014) Sorcerer vs. Wizard: Anything You Can Do I Can Do Better?

It's obviously not a big deal to me. It's on my want list, but it's not on my must-have list or else I wouldn't have been playing without one all these years and would have just made one up.

    D&D 5E (2024) Can A Spell Caster Out Damage a Martial Consistently?

He said the numbers hold up regardless of what weapon they use, but they default to longbow. Bow hits more often but does less damage per hit. Greatsword hits less often but does more damage per hit. They average about the same. Strategy was spread out so they don't all get hit with an AOE if...

    D&D 5E (2024) Can A Spell Caster Out Damage a Martial Consistently?

No they are primary bow users using GWM, with a greatsword if for some reason they find themselves in melee combat. GWM now adds its damage to longbows as well, since it's any heavy weapon now and longbows are a heavy weapon.

D&D 5E (2014) Sorcerer vs. Wizard: Anything You Can Do I Can Do Better?

I firmly think this is more powerful than a 5.5e martial character.

D&D 5E (2014) Sorcerer vs. Wizard: Anything You Can Do I Can Do Better?

Just read that an honestly that's an awful lot of abilities. Seems meaningfully more powerful than 5.5e. But I could be wrong since I only just now read through it.

D&D 5E (2014) Sorcerer vs. Wizard: Anything You Can Do I Can Do Better?

I want a Warlord too, and have for a long time now. But I don't think it was a choice between these and a Warlord. Artificer was maybe a choice between it and Warlord but Warlord was never going to be a core class in this game given the throw-back choice they made when initially designing 5e...

D&D 5E (2014) Sorcerer vs. Wizard: Anything You Can Do I Can Do Better?

Rituals and access to more spells and better spells make wizards very distinct from sorcerers. Font of Magic and Metamagic make sorcerers very distinct from wizards.

D&D General Did 5e 2024 Not meet the economic goals set, and if not, why not?

The best information I've seen has been Mike Mearls' speculation. He seemed initially to think it was not meeting expectations but then seemed to change his mind, at least to some respect, as he observed some DnDBeyond numbers, which were much higher. But that's all pretty vague.
