D&D 5E (2014) Drawbacks to Increasing Monster AC Across the Board?

To deal 12.5 damage, the character must hit (not crit) with one of its attacks, and miss with the other. So that's .6 (hit) * .35 (miss) * 2 (because it can be A hits/B misses or A misses/B hits. That's .42 = 42%. Its simply the math, you say there is no consistency....I mean its just the math...

D&D 5E (2014) Drawbacks to Increasing Monster AC Across the Board?

Thank you, learned something new today. That said, if your going to do all of that effort to provide superior numbers than the chart I provided for....you should provide such a chart in return:) Here is the chart with these probabilities showing every possible damage probability for a...

D&D 5E (2014) Drawbacks to Increasing Monster AC Across the Board?

65% is the second sentence in the original post. I didn't think a quick chart required the full mathematics of basic to hit, adv to hit, and disadv to hit probabilities.

D&D 5E (2014) Drawbacks to Increasing Monster AC Across the Board?

I am....so confused. 65% is a commonly quoted number in monster math discussions, and its been used heavily in discussions on this thread. That's why I used it, no more no less. If you think the 65% on a hit is not accurate, that the normal to hit rate is a big deviation from that....fair...

D&D 5E (2014) Drawbacks to Increasing Monster AC Across the Board?

I was not referencing any specific post in my chart. The 65% hit rate was thrown around frequently as the common base point, and so I used that. The damage was just a joe shmoe fighter

D&D 5E (2014) Drawbacks to Increasing Monster AC Across the Board?

Since there is a lot of discussion about what the hit rate translates to in game I thought this quick chart would be helpful. If you assume a 65% hitrate, two attacks (aka most fighter types). And then we assume a damage of 12.5 (1d8 + 5 str +2 for something like dueling mastery + 1 magic...

    D&D 5E (2014) Aerial combat in 5e

I have a dragon that wants to turn 90 degrees, move 100 feet while climbing up 60 feet. How far does the dragon have to move to do all that? You have figure out how far forward the dragon has to go yo make the 90 degree turn, then backtrack + the 100 feet, then do Pythagorean math to add in the...

D&D General Would You Play High Level (12-15);Wiith Pre Generated Characters? Mostly 5.0/5.5 but theoretically any edition.

I think the key here is a background generating session 0. Have the players focus on pure background discussion, breathe life into the characters. Sure the DM has given out the stats, but how they got their for the players to decide. Have them decide if they know each other before hand and work...

    D&D 5E (2014) Aerial combat in 5e

Honestly one of the best things 5e did was toss all of those clunky 3e flyrules out the air lock. way way way too much complexity, you just want griffons going at it, you don't want a bunch of people with calculators out doing math. KISS is the policy here.

Jurassic Park, Matrix, and Avatar were probably the three where I was literally stunned at the effects.

    Spoilers THUNDERBOLTS* (spoilers I guess?)

If I were to redo the movie from scratch, would have loved to do a more CA2 spy type movie where Wakanda is secretly sabotaging the treaties to stall out the mining of Adamantium (which is a direct threat to their monetary reliance on Vibranium). Since we got some Dora Mélange in F&WS we could...

    D&D 5E (2014) Aerial combat in 5e

If your doing it on a map, I recommend rather than minis use a chit like poker chip like. Then place a little cube on top to represent the height, each cube I’d like 50 feet (something convienient your not doing every 5 foot here). And then yeah don’t bother with diagonals.

Saving private ryan. I went with my dad who went through Vietnam. He never really seemed that affected by his experience but on that day he was balling after the opening sequence

I think BNW is just a worse movie (not garbage but just pretty meh). But the other part is that

Worlds of Design: Magic, Magic Everywhere

If you want to go with the magic item "expires" route I would do that on a per adventure basis, not per use....as the later it just way way way too much tracking for my taste. After each main adventure, have the players roll for their items, and then expire the ones needed for the next...

    D&D 5E (2024) Magic Items In 5.5

Yeah the items are pretty reasonable in a lot of cases when they are found in game, as players are often not optimized to really use the higher stats. Its when you start the game with them and can build around them that they get a bit OP.

    D&D 5E (2024) Magic Items In 5.5

Yep I often do that as well, though I will say I disallow the stat boost items. No putting an 8 in your stat and boosting it to 19 with an item, sorry:)
