    D&D 5E (2024) Spicy combat

One thing to do with "minion" type monsters is rather than attack with them, use them for the help action on your big centerpiece monster. When that monster now has advantage on a lot of attacks, its scarier than just some regular old minion hit. Lots of good advice already. Another way to...

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 - Do magic weapons bypass resistance now?

What do you mean beyond the +1? So magic weapons do bypass BPS resistance?

What Show Should Have Only Had One Season?

So an interesting segway on this thread are shows with horrible endings. Not meh endings, not "eh not my favorite", but "this show is now ash in my mouth" kind of endings. Its an interesting question of if you had a great 1st season and the next several seasons were solid, but then the ending...

What Show Should Have Only Had One Season?

The first season isn't great, its really not. But I will fully say the last two seasons were a MAJOR improvement. Kind of like 1st season of Next Gen and future seasons.

D&D General Do You Play Out Every Combat?

Even easy combats I will play at least the opening rounds. I do think its important for the PCs to get to curb stomp some monsters every so often so they feel powerful.... I find long term my party often remembers those encounters more than many others. But that said, they will quickly shift to...

Spoilers Foundation Season 02 (Apple TV+) - SPOILERS

I know this is an old post but just coming back to this thread and saw it. I have to say, I recognize Apple catalog is lacking in quantity, but it has quality in spades. Apple has the best stuff there imo, the vast majority of shows I have watched on it have been straight gold. I don't like...

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 - Do magic weapons bypass resistance now?

So I know a lot of the monsters in the new MM just have resistance to BPS, no mention of magic. And we have seen a lot of "your attack is like a magic weapon" changed to "you now do force damage". Is that how straight up +1 magic weapons work now, or do they no longer help against that BPS...

"Promising hints of life on distant planet"

So a deeper (but still simplistic) answer is this: If you have Alice and Bob who are light years apart, and then both share an entangled particle. If Alice just does a measurement on the particle and its in state "1", she knows that Bob's particle is also right now in state 1. Neat....but not...

"Promising hints of life on distant planet"

If we are this level of sci-fi, you could likely invoke genetic engineering to help the skills you need and accentuate the species diversity. or just rely on AI for the technical expertise.

    D&D 5E (2024) Stealth Errata

Further enhanced by the note that while the DM determines the condition for hiding, once hiding is done there are only a specific conditions that actually remove hiding. None of them is the loss of total cover/concealment. The theoretical one is that an enemy "finds you", but how do they find...

"Promising hints of life on distant planet"

yep I'll take the L on this one, I had the right direction of the dilation but messed up the frame of reference. As you say the 124 years is what earth would experience, and the time dilation would adjust to a much shorter time for the ship. so I was wrong before.

    Wheel of Time S3

My main question with Lanfaey was....what was her plan with the "fake Coracan?" I mean....the plan never had a chance of working. The second Rand flexes that dragon magic everyone is going to know he's the one. My thoughts are either: 1) Lanfaey wants to make Rand channel as much as possible...

"Promising hints of life on distant planet"

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Time_dilation That is exactly how it works. If I take off in a super fast spaceship, my clock slows down compared to a clock on earth. But looked at it from the ships point of view, Earth's clock speeds up. So 1 year on the spaceship could be 100 years on earth.

    D&D 5E (2024) Stealth Errata

The 4e rules are very good imo. Covers all the normal stuff such as: 1) What happens if there are multiple people? 2) What happens if I move out of cover? 3) If I move out of cover and attack what happens? 4) Can I move quickly or run and remain hidden? 5) Is there a penalty if I'm far away...

"Promising hints of life on distant planet"

Talking about intergalactic distances....we all know light speed doesn't cut it, and going faster than light speed is not possible according to physics. HOWEVER, one thing that physics does allow, is for space itself to go faster than light. According to our current expanding universe theory...

"Promising hints of life on distant planet"

Well keep in mind though, time dilation is only relative to an observer. If I send a ship out on a 120 light year mission at 99% the speed of light, to a person on the ship it still takes 120+ years to get there, aka they will all be dead or it will decedents taking over the ship. Its just if...

"Promising hints of life on distant planet"

To the question of "Is civilization inevitable?" If we assume that intelligent life is a given on a world (certainly a bold assumption) than will that intelligent life inevitably form a civilization? First, you would have to assume a certain form of social structure. A super intelligent...

"Promising hints of life on distant planet"

Multiple that number by another several TRILLION and you get in the ballpark. The observable universe is estimated to have 21 SEXTILLION planets. Basically take all the water on earth, and put it in eyedroppers of liquid, you could have an eyedropper for every planet. This doesn't change your...

"Promising hints of life on distant planet"

I imagine that any alien civilization that has made it "for the long haul" probably had to do some mass genetic engineering to "breed out" any tribal and likely selfish tendencies. Aka traits that worked really well when were scratching out an existence against a brutal and hostile natural...

"Promising hints of life on distant planet"

I go with the notions that either other civs are simply too far away for any practical interaction, or that at some point virtual technology gets sophisticated enough that we can create worlds that are more fantastical and "cool" than the same old boring rocks the universe throws at us. Aka the...
