Making a Star Wars hack of The One Ring's system

It’s a good system, very elegant in its simplicity. I just find it a little too simple. I yearn for just a few more bells and whistles.

    What Should the Bard Be?

Well, yeah. Like anyone with some strength and dexterity can fight; it doesn't make them all fighters. I'm not disagreeing with you however, "the artist class" is the niche the bard goes after.

    What Should the Bard Be?

I think that's the idea; that a bard has less to do with music and singing than someone using their wits to get around/manipulate people. Personally, I like to see bards as a folk people first and foremost. Culture and folklore is their interest, and with it comes songs and tales.

    D&D 5E (2014) Would You Play This?

Personally, I’ll play anything a DM is passionate about and enthusiastic to run. I easily get caught in their enthusiasm and have fun. Similarly, even my favourite setting is going to be dull if the DM isn’t into it

    D&D 5E (2014) 5E economics -The Peasants are revolting!

That aligns with the job description of an adventurer’s hireling rather well actually. Well done WotC! :)

    What Should the Bard Be?

I work as a stage technician. We have riggers, sound engineers, lighting operators, production managers… I could go on and on. The bigger the production, the more specialized these jobs get. Days are long with extended periods of intense concentration, and deadlines are inflexible. And then you...

D&D General Tips for Using Paper Character Sheets

Not sure if it’s a « tip » or to what extent this is anecdotal, but rather than going for a «clean», printed type-fillable pdf form, I prefer to print a blank form and fill it by hand. There is something in the act of writing something down that is different from typing on a computer; it...

Making a Star Wars hack of The One Ring's system

Heh, I was wondering if anyone was reading this! I must say I’m quite satisfied with how things are turning out so far. PCs have acquired a ship (game so far has been an investigation turned into a race to the « treasure » based in and around Mos Eisley), so I’m polishing my space combat...

    Peregrine’s Nest: Let’s Play Nice

D&D 5E (2014) Is the Forgotten Realms experiencing a new Golden Age now that its NOT the default 5e setting anymore?

FR is full of good ideas. I still think that not all these ideas need to be used however, nor to they have to be used ´fully’. The best realms are your own realms. That is mostly true with any setting however…

Which RPGs did you play in 2023?

Eh, didn’t know this was a thing (in the making). Different from 1e?

Which RPGs did you play in 2023?

Wow, you guys are prolific… I played D&D 5e a Star Wars hack of The One Ring rules L5R (tried a bit of the 5e Adventure in Rokugan, than reverted back to roll-and-keep edition) Aliens RPG …and this was a good year

D&D General Does D&D (and RPGs in general) Need Edition Resets?

I may be wrong, but I dont think anyone is refuting that edition changes and evolution of a game is necessary, but rather the hard reset «this is a whole new set of rules» type of reedition. D&D to AD&D to 2e AD&D are closer to natural evolution than the jumps to 3.x to 4e to 5e, for example.

D&D General Tech in DnD; What should be included and how much is too much? (+)

In my experience, to many players, if it’s in the PHB; it’s fair game. And DMs, especially new ones, are less chastised for adding more stuff than banning things from the PHB. This is neither in favour or against firearms in the PHB, just as to why I care about what is and isn’t default.

D&D General Does D&D (and RPGs in general) Need Edition Resets?

« Need to »? Probably not, but I’m glad D&D did reinvent itself every decade or so. I much prefer this edition to the first, and everything that has happen in between was (probably) necessary to evolve and grow into what it is today. If it hadn’t, I probably wouldn’t be playing D&D but some...

D&D 5E (2024) The Cleric should be retired

Seen from this angle, that makes more sense. Not sure if I agree, but that'd be consequent.

D&D 5E (2024) I'm a longtime player and there really is only one thing that will stop me from switching to 5.X

Most of my gaming friends, even those who are pretty invested in the hobby, only have a vague idea that D&D is cooking some 50th anniversary re-release with slightly updated character creation rules à la Tasha, let alone having knowledge of specific UA content. Same with the RPG-ing college...

D&D 5E (2024) The Cleric should be retired

Really? I was under the impression that monastism (?) was one of the most widely shared religious concepts. If you look at the typical Christian-type monastery with life-time monks making beer and cheese, I agree that's pretty specific, but monastery as the concept of a secluded place to...

D&D General High Gygaxian: Time To Post Your Favorite Purple Verbiage

I corroborate your information. Actually, I’m pretty sure we can find enough evidence support on these forums to elevate your « anecdotal experience » to « dubious empirical data ».
