    Brainstorming DEFENSE

One more thing, you could derive it as: L ight Armor or No Armor: 15 + 3/career rank above 5 + Ability Pool + Skill Pool* Medium Armor: 10 + 3/career rank above 5 + Ability Pool + Skill Pool Heavy Armor: 5 + 3/career rank above 5 + Ability Pool + Skill Pool that gives you a flat base to...

    Brainstorming DEFENSE

    If they were level 5 they'd be: 17, 18, 18, 18, 19, 21, 21, 26

    Brainstorming DEFENSE

They're level 6 so I'm rolling 6 dice w/an equal level critter putting the first 4 in the 50/50 zone, the 22, 24, 24 are def. possible and the 29 is a real stretch, but he's the jedi so he should be.

    Brainstorming DEFENSE

Unarmored, my team would be: 20, 21, 21, 21, 22, 24, 24, 29 I'm uncertain what choices they might make regarding armor. The ogron would almost certainly retain his heavy armor, so his AC would drop from 24 to 12.

    Brainstorming DEFENSE

Here's one to consider - Assumptions: Hit rate target vs. equal leveled enemies = 50% Attack pools will stay equal to level for levels 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10 SOAK is intended to be an ALTERNATIVE to DEFENSE Attack Pools Level 5 (5d6) (3 ability, 2 skill) Level 6 (6d6) (3 ability, 2 skill, 1...

    Brainstorming DEFENSE

The value could serve a purpose though couldn't it? The continual increase in both DEFENSE and ATTACK would mean a few thing: Over time, characters become appreciably more powerful than lower level characters (whether this is good or bad is a diff. question) Equal level characters retain the...

    Brainstorming DEFENSE

The attack pools are tightly grouped only because of the new dice pool limit. That changed caused them to diversify more, and stack less attack. Prior to that, they were all over the board.

    Brainstorming DEFENSE

They have 6 career levels, so they're capped at 6, not 5. Their total attack pools are: 7, 7, 7, 6, 6, 6, 5 Of course none of them get to actually roll higher than 6 dice. The 7s are derived from 3-4 Ability + 1-2 Skill + 1 HQ weapon + 1 battlesuit targeting The 5 is from a character that...

    Brainstorming DEFENSE

    Defenses w/out Skills 7, 10.5, 10.5, 10.5, 10.5, 12, 14 Defenses w/1 Skill Applied 10.5, 10.5, 14, 14, 17.5, 17.5, 19 Defenses in Existing armor w/1 skill applied 6.5, 6.5, 10, 10, 13.5, 15, 17.5 In this batch, the jedi character stays at 17.5 as he's wearing no armor. Probably worth...

    Brainstorming DEFENSE

You could build such a character as a Career, with rank abilities that apply dice penalties to the attack roll. Alternately, redefine DEFENSE as a dice penalty that is applied to the attacker. Then you can still access the DC system, and allow AGI to impact DEFENSE.

    Brainstorming DEFENSE

Your new method produces the following Defenses for my characters: 4, 8, 12, 12, 16, 20, 20 The 4 is the ogron of the group, so w/out the size penalty, it would be 8 One of the 20's is for the jedi, so his DEFENSE would go up with the class ability These options do not account for shields...

    Brainstorming DEFENSE

Yah, in the start almost everything you did in combat in NEW was AGI related. =) I think you've fixed that. One thing to emphasize from the above post though, my players do not see SOAK as an alternative to DEFENSE. They see it as supplemental.

    Brainstorming DEFENSE

Just thinking out loud - I would not start with deciding how to calculate DEFENSE, but rather lay out some goals. For instance, how often should a starting schmuck succeed in shooting his opponent? Personally, I'd use a 5d6 pool to calculate this. A PC is always going to be superior to your...

    Simplifying traits

BTW, I like the general simplification that seems to be suggested above. Characters will end up with one attribute trait, some sort of background, and some Universal Exploits if I read it right...

    Simplifying traits

I like the concept of age having a character impact, but I am not a huge fan of the exploits. My players all wanted to be an age different than what their Career-derived age suggested anyhow, but with game stats tied to it, I had to approach allowing that cautiously.

    Simplifying traits

Are you dumping Age exploits altogether?

    LUCK Changes

You are probably going to need to consider increasing the LUCK attribute. Of the 7 characters that I have loaded in The City of Brass for our game, 5 of them have a LUCK pool of 1d6 (lowest possible). 1 has no LUCK attribute at all, and the last one has a 2d6 pool.

I'll see how it works out next week. This week was all space action, next week they're exploring something akin to a dungeon.
