    D&D 5E (2014) ... and we have a wizard!

It could just be that references to things beyond 5th level were cut for space since it's not relevant to the starter set. Edit: Seems Sir Brennan already mentioned this.

    D&D 5E (2014) 5e Hobgoblin stat block

OT: Wow, is that a reference to Hong Ooi? I think I remember him from my Usenet days, or very-early ENWorld.

    D&D 5E (2014) Starter Set: Except 7

A little surprising for traditionally long-armed monsters like the troll and hook horror.

    D&D 5E (2014) Starter Set: Except 7

I really like the nothic's chunky list of abilities. Feels just like the 4e version. And yeah, surprised at the ogre's short reach. 4e ogres have a reach of 2, but not threatening reach (can't make OAs or flank at range 2).

D&D 5E (2014) How are objects being handled as far as damage is concerned?

Can't say I'm a fan of the "wait for the DMG" answer which I'm seeing a lot around these parts. People are playing games now, and the DMG is a long ways off. Personally I'd probably use something based on the 3e rules for damaging objects until something official arrives to supersede it.

D&D 5E (2014) So why's the spell's saving throw and target in the text block?

Wizards wants to do their part to combat illiteracy by making kids read more. :p

    D&D 5E (2014) Some Skill Questions & Commentary

Some good food for thought here. Since proficiencies of all kinds vary so much in their utility I wonder how much sense it would make to draw up a grand skill list which includes actual skills, tools, languages, and other similar class-agnostic proficiencies, each with a weighted cost. Say your...

    D&D 5E (2014) Some Skill Questions & Commentary

Reducing falling damage: Playtest rules mention that you stay standing after a fall if you avoid taking falling damage, but there doesn't appear to be any way to do so other than magic. Acrobatics doesn't mention it. I'd probably rule it a Dex save with Acrobatics skill proficiency adding...

    D&D 5E (2014) Starter Set Cleric Sheet

CR 1/2 likely means below-level-1 creatures, like a common skeleton or zombie. Myself, I'd rather see turn undead's outright destruction based on something other than HP. A giant animated skeleton might have a boatload of HP but it should be easier to destroy via turning than a lich with fewer HP.

    Good Sandbox Products?

4e Neverwinter campaign setting. So many competing factions, lots of political intrigue mixed in with dangerous adventuring locations. It does have some crunch for 4e, but the character themes are all associated with different factions and the mechanics are easily ignored.

    D&D 5E (2014) Starter Set: Excerpt 3 (actual)

That's a pretty nice solution. Have the player (or DM) roll the check in secret so only the DM sees the result, and if they don't get it opened immediately let them continue to work on it minute-by-minute until either it opens or they decide they're sick of it or run out of time.

D&D 5E (2014) Do we know if they are keeping the 20 Natural score cap? What about expanded backgrounds?

The 20 cap is probably my favorite thing about this edition. That and super-chunky feats.

    D&D 5E (2014) Starter Set Command Spell

My memory may be fuzzy but wasn't "undead are immune to enchantment spells" the norm at one time? Sacred Bovines.

    D&D 5E (2014) Starter Set Command Spell

Not really happy with the return of the wall of text for what should be a simple combat spell, but it's certainly not a deal-breaker. Now instead of casters staring at their power sheets they'll be staring at the PHB. The 4e power format made everything clear-cut, which has its advantages and...

    D&D 5E (2014) Starter Set: Excerpt 4

This map appeared in the 4e Neverwinter Campaign Setting, although some locations have been removed and others added, as well as the hex overlay. Highly recommend it as a sandbox campaign location.

Learn about D&D organized play options

I'd just like an option to buy the adventures for home campaign use without all the baggage of organized play attached, thanks. :erm:

Very nice, shame about that ink-intensive colored background though. Any chance on a no-background version?
