D&D Movie/TV Netflix Planning Forgotten Realms D&D TV Show With Stranger Things Producer

Cool, let's hope it turns out well. I don't need a series to enjoy my hobby more, but a good fantasy series is always welcome. I'm just not sure if they can pull it off. Game of Thrones jumped the shark, Rings of Power didn't work for me and I couldn't get into The Witcher. Those are some of...

D&D 5E (2024) Wrapping up first 2-20 2024 campaign this week, some of my thoughts

Hey folks can we cool down a bit? ECM03 is sharing their experiences, which is a really nice thing to do. Yes they might play the game differently than you do. Take away from that what you will. I already learned that I should not give players free reign to pick magic items, and I'll need to...

D&D 5E (2024) Wrapping up first 2-20 2024 campaign this week, some of my thoughts

Yeah it will be fine at tier 3-4, but earlier than that and it causes issues. Mostly because it's always the AC stacking character who tries to get it, making a huge AC imbalance.

D&D 5E (2024) Wrapping up first 2-20 2024 campaign this week, some of my thoughts

Your experience isn't the same as mine. I am happy this is not an issue at your table. I don't care what is intended. I care about my experience at my table.

D&D 5E (2024) Wrapping up first 2-20 2024 campaign this week, some of my thoughts

+3 AC at late tier 2 would ruin my encounter design. Yes, damage is king, but I don't think you see how terrible every combat is when the monsters just can't hit a PC. It lowers the stakes and makes a fight boring. I have been there. Every fight I went through the motions of monsters...

How the Monsters Have Changed in the 2025 Monster Manual: Arcanaloth

That just sounds like the perfect way to make a DM do too much work for little gain. The whole reason they moved away from a long list of spells is that it just makes it harder to find the optimal play from turn to turn.

D&D 5E (2024) Wrapping up first 2-20 2024 campaign this week, some of my thoughts

In my experience, AC stacking makes a party unbalanced in their defenses, while the DM has to increase the challenge dramatically or be unable to threaten the AC-stacked PC. Yes, I am aware of saving throws and other stuff. Whatever the case, high AC characters become far too strong too easily...

D&D 5E (2024) Wrapping up first 2-20 2024 campaign this week, some of my thoughts

Thanks for sharing the experience! I think we can all agree that giving PC's free range on choosing items will always break the game. It is one of my biggest disappointments that WotC didn't balance the game around PC's having magic items (or give more solid guidance), or balance item rarity...

D&D 5E (2024) How do you grade Scion of the Dead Three? Green, Yellow, Red?

pretty poor that this subclass doesn't have anything going on outside of combat that sets it apart from other rogues. The aura is the worst offender. Still, I really like the concept and I think if the teleport triggered on a creature becoming bloodied, the subclass would start coming together...

    D&D 5E (2024) Lycanthropes in the MM

It really is. I homebrewed my own werewolves based on this. This kind of regeneration perfectly represents at the table how werewolfs are weak to silver in my opinion. The Loup Garou worked perfectly in my Curse of Strahd game.

    D&D 5E (2014) What's a Yugoloth?

There's some more info on Yugoloths in the DMG24 chapter on Gahenna. As a more recent DM, the Yugoloth distinction by alignment is already a miss. I don't care about alignment as something to personify monsters with. Especially something as bland as "neutral evil". It's very easy to just ignore...

WotC Mike Mearls: "D&D Is Uncool Again"

Which is odd to me. How else do you say a book does well close after its release? We know a lot of 5e books kept selling well, the Player Handbook being a big one. Did we expect the news to say "Sold more than the 2014 PHB!"? I don't think anyone expected that.

    D&D 5E (2024) 5e 2024 − The Monster Math

Having run the Sunless Citadel with 3rd level 2024 NPC’s, that tracks. They would have had no trouble defeating double that. Recently I also tested 8 CR 1 lions vs 4 lvl 3 PC’s and it was a perfect high challenge fight. I wouldn’t use the DMG stats by CR, though. Old monsters are famous for...

    D&D 5E (2024) Monster Manual 2025 Stat Block Compilation

The Adult Black Dragon shared by The Gallant Goblin My maths tell me it deals an average of 135 damage per round, which is a 23 or about 20% damage increase. Not bad.

Are Orcs in the Monster Manual? No and Yes.

When I started DM’ing 5e, I used to alter each stat block to make them a certain race. That did not last long. In my experience, the effort wasn’t ever worth it. It was easier to look up a species’ features if I really wanted them. Now, I will miss the stat blocks just because of the...
