    D&D 4E Mouseferatu weighs in on 4e

Up until now I wasn't even sure if you'd be able to build anything other than a "tank" fighter. I'm ecstatic to hear you can build a swashbuckling fighter in 4e - awesome! I was afraid the Rogue was going to kill the swashy buckle and steal all his stuff. I get that it's much more a...

Wotc_Huscarl on the Biggie Smalls playtest, part 6.

I love the PT reports, but I'd like to see some of the higher level playtests for a change. It'd be nice to get a taste of what Epic Level combat is like in 4e.

D&D 4E Will we be able to play 4E without minis?

With the emphasis on mobile combat, more opponents/encounter, auras, opportunisitic attacks and generally more knocking opponents about the map, I suspect it will quite a bit more difficult to run a game without minis. Personally, I'm all for it because it makes combat just that much more...

    D&D 4E Mouseferatu weighs in on 4e

And speaking of another perspective... So what is your favorite class(es) in the new edition John? Favorite monster(s)?

Indeed. Thanks for chiming in John. :)

The Devil's in the Details: Slavicsek reveals the Pit Fiend in all its glory

If the new 4e DDM stat cards are anything to go by, classes start with high hit points, but gain only a middling amount per level after that (Fighters seem to gain about ~5 HP/level after 1st). They are quite a bit less than 3e at higher levels, and more compressed between the classes.

    D&D 4E Mouseferatu weighs in on 4e

I remember seeing Ari answering that on his blog here: http://mouseferatu.livejournal.com/519850.html?thread=2571178#t2571178

    D&D 4E Mouseferatu weighs in on 4e

Heh, I think most would be interested in knowing if they just work. Early on there was a comment that their intention was to make multiclassing work for "all classes, all levels". But the last comments we've heard suggested that they were still trying to get them to work, and that they've tried...

    D&D 4E Mouseferatu weighs in on 4e

Seeing as the rogue is my 2nd favorite class, this is definitely a good sign. Have you (or someone in your group) had a chance to playtest the multiclass rules? Any comments? The lowly gnoll's getting some luv in the new edition? Nice. Yeah I seem to recall a tidbit released a little while...

    D&D 4E Mouseferatu weighs in on 4e

Gotcha... So what's your favorite 4e class? Favorite monster? What do think is the most improved class (interest-wise)? Most improved monster?

    D&D 4E Mouseferatu weighs in on 4e

No worries. :) I wasn't looking for specifics btw (I knew you could never give them), just curious whether Demon Lords were solidly more powerful than regular (non-unique) monsters or will they still weak enough that they'd have to worry about a single ancient dragon one-on-one. And as for...

    D&D 4E Mouseferatu weighs in on 4e

We've been getting tidbits every now again suggesting that combat is going to be much more mobile (and not just moving around, but being *knocked* around too) and that there is more inter-party (and I assume inter-monster) combat synergy. It sounds like there is an additional emphasis on...

Opinion: PoL and high tiers do not fit in the long run

Just as heroes live long enough to rise to prominance in the world, so do villains. Sometimes the heroes win, sometimes the villains win... in the end there's just a lot of high level collateral damage. But sometimes you'll have those who rise high enough above the crowd to build an empire but...

The Devil's in the Details: Slavicsek reveals the Pit Fiend in all its glory

As I recall, the reason why some of those fights were just 4 slots was due to some of the monsters they were throwing together were higher than the party level. The game is still geared for 1 standard monster per PC for a level appropriate encounter. It really is a departure from the 3e...

    D&D 4E Less hit points in 4e?

The more I look, the more I wonder if PC classes have static HPs with *no* Con bonuses after 1st level, especially if the minis rules are indicative of the HPs we can expect. Looking at the cards we see the following... Level 3 Fighter: 30 (Merchant Guard) - should be 40? Cleric: Rogue...

The Devil's in the Details: Slavicsek reveals the Pit Fiend in all its glory

You have to look at it from an encounter POV, not just the monster on it's own. The Pit Fiend is spec'd as a Leader, not a Brute (frontliner). When you run into this guy, he's got (for example) two 26th level "Brute" Devils and a 26th level "Skirmisher" Devil running around in addition to the...

The Devil's in the Details: Slavicsek reveals the Pit Fiend in all its glory

The Mace attack is against your AC (effectively doubling as your "save defense" against the fire damage) - if it hits you, you're automatically lit on fire in addition to taking the base damage. You have to roll your save to end it. Poison always targets your fortitude so that's why it gets...

The Devil's in the Details: Slavicsek reveals the Pit Fiend in all its glory

Remember, the Pit Fiend can still make "untrained" Diplomacy checks @ +22, nothing to sneeze at. Intimidation is going to see far more use in handling "negotiations" anyway... ;)

How I Stopped Worrying and Learned To Love Standard Plusses

You're missing the point of the discussion. I'm speaking in terms of what I think WotC will do given what we know (and why), not what I would do myself. Bottom line: I expect to see PC Wealth Guidelines in the DMG, that's it. The larger issue for me being the consequences for the game at large...
