You know you can use minion rules with things like zombies and constructs, right? Things that have no sentience or culture. When used like that, it's not really any different from using a swarm of rats instead of rolling for each individual rat.

Maybe not. Of course, with magic involved to calm things down, who knows! Whether there's a chance to talk beforehand depends on what the (potential) enemy is doing, so if they're actively engaged in evil acts, then the party probably doesn't want to give them a chance to continue that evil...

In TTRPGs? Most of them. In video games? I generally don't. Are you saying that in video games, you have as many options for dealing with enemies as you do in RPGs? Where did I say that they were playing wrong by murderhoboing?

In video games, the NPCs have limited programming. You literally can't sit down and talk it out with an enemy unless the enemy is programmed to have that option, and then you are limited by what options for dialogue there are. In a TTRPG, the only limitation is the imaginations of the players...

To be fair, in many video games, you can't actually have conversations with the NPCs the way you can in a TTRPG.

MM just says "equal to its hit points." I've always heard that as current hp, not max. So it's just another issue of unclear writing. Those old movies are a whole 'nother world.

Really? And how do you determine that something is less plausible? Do you assume it's impossible to come up with a plausible reason on the fly, or an implausible reason that's thought up days in advance?

Of course it's both realistic and fair to expect you to ignore what you don't like. If you reply to it, all you do is encourage the parts you don't like to be talked about more!
