D&D General "Red Orc" American Indians and "Yellow Orc" Mongolians in D&D

The point is that it shows that concept of a Warlord class works fine outside of 4e's power structure. (And doesn't depend on a grid either - which was the big issue with Mearls' Youtube attempt).

D&D General "Red Orc" American Indians and "Yellow Orc" Mongolians in D&D

I really think this is overstated. Have a look at the Commander class for 13th Age.

And you think the Warlord is? Ok. I don't. Edit: Although my point was that basically there's no real way to be sure, so holding back from Warlords out of fear of fan reaction is basically just a convservative approach to design.

D&D 5E (2014) Aren't Short Rest classes *better* in "story-based" games rather than dungeon crawls?

So? What is the Warlock spending those slots on? If there's no immediate problems that need solving with magic what does it matter? Well, whenever the failure to resolve the issue results in a combat for one.

D&D General "Red Orc" American Indians and "Yellow Orc" Mongolians in D&D

This may suggest that the designers thought it might alienate the fanbase. It doesn't mean they were right to think so. It seems likely now that 5e was probably an overcorrection. (You may have thought based on edition war comments that Barbarians with fire auras were a complete dealbreaker...

D&D 5E (2014) Aren't Short Rest classes *better* in "story-based" games rather than dungeon crawls?

Being able to take short rests easily doesn't really matter if everyone else is able to take long rests just as easily. Assuming they know for certain they can rest immediately afterwards. Otherwise the Wizard has a distinct advantage as they sacrfice a lot less when they spend one of their...

I just realised that Lovecraft is basically the Martin Heidegger of speculative fiction.

D&D General "Red Orc" American Indians and "Yellow Orc" Mongolians in D&D

As I said in another thread, I wouldn't be too sure about the exact reasons 4e failed. Lots of elements of 4e have passed over latterly into 5e with nary a peep. It was probably a whole lot of things combined that caused it to fail. I seriously doubt that the Warlord, by itself, is a serious...

D&D 5E (2014) Aren't Short Rest classes *better* in "story-based" games rather than dungeon crawls?

Surely that's easy. The PCs don't do anything that sparks multiple combats. Their investigating in town, or their travelling through the wilderness, and you haven't done anything to alter the rest schedule. Even in terms of utility, in theory if there is little combat the Warlock should be...

D&D 5E (2014) Aren't Short Rest classes *better* in "story-based" games rather than dungeon crawls?

Maybe maybe not. It depends on whether the PCs can plausibly go under the radar. If for example, they've thrown around fireballs and the like, then they can't exactly bury the damage that causes. Of course plausibly this creates immediate attention, but dungeon crawling has always had this...

D&D General "Red Orc" American Indians and "Yellow Orc" Mongolians in D&D

Probably. The degree of success that is dependent on Critical Role would probably be unchanged. But it would probably have suffered a little initially from having less goodwill from traditionalist 3e fans.

You're infiltrating an enemy stronghold and you've just killed some guards. Given an hour the bodies have likely been discovered and a full blown search is underway.

D&D General "Red Orc" American Indians and "Yellow Orc" Mongolians in D&D

I suspect that this thread is almost entirely people talking past each other at this point.

These are all good points, but earlier in the thread people were specifically talking about the author and not the work.

D&D 5E (2024) What do you want in the revised DMG?

In 13th Age they're just small side bars. Including them may actually save space because you don't have to write so many rules to avoid ambiguity or ridiculous exploits based on legalistic application of rules text. Here's an example. And another in regard to application of a Ranger power...

D&D Movie/TV Chris Pine is making $11.5 million for D&D movie

Most Hollywood movies that are over 90 minutes don't really have enough story for their run time. Especially 3rd acts. Most Hollywood movies I've seen in the last 10 years had perfunctory and perfectly predictable 3rd acts.

D&D 5E (2014) Aren't Short Rest classes *better* in "story-based" games rather than dungeon crawls?

Is the issue that the Warlock is always resting or that the Warlock always wants to rest?

Warlocks should only travel in litters carried by zombie bearers.
