On Magic Users and Darts: What's Up With That?

I can only remember running one MU who wasn't multi-classed... he survived up to 16th level or so. When he started out, I had him take dart as his weapon proficiency, but also carry a dagger 'just in case'... even if he had huge penalties using it, at least there was always a chance. Luckily...

D&D 5E (2014) Anna Meyer has just Put out her Latest Greyhawk Map Update

wow, that is one incredible map. And... while looking around on it, I noticed that Ghazal, a fortress I created for a Dungeon magazine adventure back in 2E days, is right there in the Bright Desert. I'm guessing that a lot of the named stuff on there that I didn't recognize come from other...

D&D 5E (2014) Why so few magic polearms in the DMG?

I once ran an adventure where all the NPC enemy fighters carried those weird polearms from UA that no one ever uses.... fauchard forks, glaives, etc. I gave the BBEG a powerful magic/intelligent Glaive Guisarme. The PCs ended up selling it. All true, but... the PCs aren't soldiers in an army...

    D&D 5E (2014) [POLL] Best non-combat cantrips

D&D needs to have one of the cantrips from KODT: weak bladder. Imagine the fun you could have with that...

and weirdly enough, primitive jungle tribesmen. And Vikings.

    D&D 5E (2014) Am I no longer WoTC's target audience?

bah. Peasants, just like modern men with modern tools, will have three pitchforks. One for the house, one for the garage (okay, barn), and one in case you break one...

D&D 5E (2014) Greyhawk, and race options for Oerth PCs

I wanted this all through the 1E/2E days, and the closest we got was "The Scarlet Brotherhood" supplement right near the end of 2E, which showed us all of Hepmonaland. Lacking any official products, I detailed several other places on my own. When Oriental Adventures and the modules for it came...

D&D 5E (2014) Greyhawk, and race options for Oerth PCs

sure, it's ultimately a DM call. But for GH, I would allow gnomes and half-orcs... both have a long history there, and gnomes seem to be fairly common.

D&D 5E (2014) Greyhawk, and race options for Oerth PCs

it's a guess, but it keeps showing up in pictures of encounter areas, so it's a good guess... I don't think there are any NPC dragonborn in the book...

D&D 5E (2014) Greyhawk, and race options for Oerth PCs

it has sorta been answered already. As someone noted earlier, GoS has a tiefling NPC and dragonborn PCs are in the artwork. But if wanted, both can be excluded without any real hassle...

D&D 5E (2014) Cost of manning a ship (Ghosts of Saltmarsh, DMG)

heh. We've had threads before here about 'just what do 5E PCs need with piles of gold?" Running a ship could be one of the answers to that...

D&D 5E (2014) Greyhawk, and race options for Oerth PCs

This... isn't really something the rest of us can answer. What do you and your players want? Tieflings yes, tieflings no, dragonborn yes, dragonborn no? That seems to be the only real issue here... GH has a long history of having gnomes and half-orcs, so those shouldn't be a problem. Want to...

D&D General The senseless achitecture in most official products

    AD&D 1E Dragon Reflections #29

heh. Mohan was nearing the end of his time at Dragon when I started submitting articles to Dragon. I like to tell people that Kim Mohan personally rejected my first submission. And not long after that, he left and Roger Moore took over. And most times when I tell this story, people ask me...

D&D General Old Campaign Worlds - What Have You Used And Why?

I'm guessing that was in 3E or beyond? I haven't followed any of the game worlds since I got out of D&D at the end of 2E. The only worlds I'm familiar with/gamed in were GH and FR... and the fate of those worlds in 2E were quite a bit different. FR had a hiccup to get into 2E (Time of...

D&D General Old Campaign Worlds - What Have You Used And Why?

for nearly all of my 1E gaming, it was set in Greyhawk, mainly because that's all there was, aside from a handful of non-TSR stuff that wasn't widely available where I was going to college. Towards the end of my gaming days in 2E, I set a campaign in FR, which was going strong at the time. My...

    D&D General d&d is anti-medieval

OTOH, they wouldn't be eaten by demons, fireballed by evil mages who are irked by something, bothered by liches, annoyed by illusions, or attacked by fighters driven mad by insane magical swords.

    D&D General d&d is anti-medieval

It was a theoretical musing, not a serious campaign idea. Still, it might be interesting to have a fair sized magic dead area in a campaign....
