D&D General [rant]The conservatism of D&D fans is exhausting.

i was imagining an unarmed fighter (who hadn't specced into that), i don't know if either of those would apply in that situation, but yes while it might be possible to one-shot a goblin but as soon as you start looking at anything else slightly more durable it quickly stops being possible to...

D&D General [rant]The conservatism of D&D fans is exhausting.

well, no, i don't think they do that better (IMO of course) because i think there would come a point where the party has just become so strong that they should all be able to splatter some goblins instantly with even their weakest attacks but i don't think mechanically the output of characters...

D&D General [rant]The conservatism of D&D fans is exhausting.

put simply, i would say the elite/minion/ect rules emphasize more the relative strength of enemies that exists to the party across all tiers of play and how at some points that differential of power becomes exponential.

I don't get the arguments for bioessentialism

what you mean sort of like this?

I don't get the arguments for bioessentialism

instead of using modifiers species ought to lean more into having a longer list of various more granular traits to portray their strengths and abilities, these traits ought to cover and influence a vast array of gameplay scenarios so that they come up often, only having a few niche situations...

    D&D 5E (2024) Subclassing the Warrior Veteran

for the samurai maybe a longbow? or just forgo a ranged weapon to focus entirely in on melee combat, a refluffed rapier and shortsword combo with the two-weapon fighting style and the defensive duelist feat? and give them the ability to cast compelled duel (or something to a similar effect...

D&D General Dragonborn In Your Game (A Poll)

given dragonborn in 24' have their daily flight i'd offer the possibility of wings, better that than the energy ones IMO, i'd also give them cosmetic tails as standard.

    Worlds of Design: Only Human

isn't the idea that though the original parents will have died and even if their children are also getting near that point if each of those five children went on to have their own 3-5 kids it's just exponential, a hundred years ago there was only the human couple, now there's 15-25 humans who...

    D&D 5E (2024) Subclassing the Warrior Veteran

for eldritch knight the abilities i'd give them would riff somewhat off war bond, war magic as well as nicking inspiration from the paladin's smite, war bond trait would just be letting them poof-recall their weapon to their hand, let them toss something that's not usually throwable like a big...

    D&D 5E (2024) Subclassing the Warrior Veteran

well i'd say for the colours at least i'd tag BM as silver and EK as violet/purple

    D&D 5E (2024) Subclassing the Warrior Veteran

just to make sure, are you specifically asking about the 24' fighter subclasses or are the 14' ones fair game too?

Purple Dragon Knight Retooled as Banneret in D&D's Heroes of Faerun Book

the problem trying to be solved here (or one of them at least) is not being tied to a specific class and/or subclass for your pet.

Purple Dragon Knight Retooled as Banneret in D&D's Heroes of Faerun Book

oh i see where you're coming from now. i can't say i really care for allowing that kind of scenario, but if i had to it would at least be a party boon than tied to a specific character.

Purple Dragon Knight Retooled as Banneret in D&D's Heroes of Faerun Book

why would the pet of a dedicated pet class be weaker than a pet subclass pet of a normally petless class? the pet class dedicates more of it's budget into making the pet itself stronger, they both have the same total budget for power. a pet subclass pet will be weaker than the dedicated pet...

Purple Dragon Knight Retooled as Banneret in D&D's Heroes of Faerun Book

if there was a pet class i still wouldn't see it as limiting useful pets solely to that class, if there was a pet class that wouldn't mean a drakewarden is any less powerful, it just offers a different distribution of power between character and pet, the pets of the dedicated class would be...

D&D General I finally like non-Tolkien species for PCs

i think dwarves are popular, but in that subtle and unobtrusive way where they're just a staple of the background, so nobody really appears to give much of a fig about them until you try to take them away and people object because it would feel like they're missing.

D&D General I finally like non-Tolkien species for PCs

personally i'd fill those slots out with goblins/hobs, grung (if they could drop the water dependency) and genasi, goblins are a small species and i think are too iconic to not include, grung are a bit of a wildcard pick but as an aquatic animal species i think can have their own niche here...

D&D General [rant]The conservatism of D&D fans is exhausting.

but 'wanting' or 'hoping' and the dice roll isn't the important part of the action resolution of what makes them different from each other, attacking the orc is a closed-potential outcome, there isn't any possibilities beyond 'hit' or 'miss' when you attempt to resolve the action. deciphering...
