D&D General Drow & Orcs Removed from the Monster Manual

Problems aside, AI art is leading to the democratization of art and making it accessible to people without artistic talent or, those who are disabled. As an aside, I know a lot of folks who currently argue that people using computers to create art are not real artists either when compared to...

We used to get a glorious 40 per page.

Gaming/RPG Fiction Should Make A Comeback

Maybe not at the time, but look at Alan Dean Foster’s lawsuit against Disney refusing to pay royalties after the Lucasfilm sale etc. A tie-in pays far less. I just watched a analysis on this recently where they compared tie-ins to Amazon self-publishing and self-publishing pays more even for...

Gaming/RPG Fiction Should Make A Comeback

Dude, start with Decision at Thunder Rift or Warrior books.

Gaming/RPG Fiction Should Make A Comeback

Grey Death Saga, Warrior trilogy, Wolves on the Border, Clan Invasion, Jade Falcon trilogy… I own the entire original run. Great books for military sf.

Gaming/RPG Fiction Should Make A Comeback

I may disagree. I love the FR novels, for instance, but I cannot run or play in an FR game because the novels killed my view of the world as a place for adventure. Why adventure in a place that has so many epic heroes. Also, tie-in novels are awful for income. The authors are treated badly...

D&D 5E (2014) For those playing 2014 5e, how are you reacting to the 2024 update?

We’re sticking with 5e. I may take some things from 5.5 if I like them but overall, I do not like the direction that 5.5 is heading.

How do you put aside your own feelings when reading?

It is a badly worded question because art should make you feel or evoke an emotional response. I do not set aside my feelings but I also do not let my opinions or biases affect whether I will consume content. If the story or writing is good, then I will let it transport me to that world and I...

How do you put aside your own feelings when reading?

I did not read it as passing judgement and the poster admitted that English is a second language. I think it is a problem is a person cannot handle reading about differing viewpoints. Note: I am not lumping in trauma issues like being a survivor of a trauma and not being able to read those...

How do you put aside your own feelings when reading?

I’d have to say the game. The game play was fun but the story was and town were a mess.

How do you put aside your own feelings when reading?

Anthem was required reading in High School in the early 90s. I enjoyed it then but that was 30+ years ago. I have not read any of her other stuff.

How do you put aside your own feelings when reading?

No. It is not difficult. I was taught to keep an open mind and think critically. People should be open to challenging their views. If the writing is bad, like Star Wars Aftermath, or if the editing is bad, then I may not continue with the book. If the story is good even if the writer does not...

D&D General Chris Perkins and Stan! - previous D&D edition thoughts

I disagree. An hour gives you time to clean or repair equipment, eat or drink, maybe remove armor and rest, care for animals. Pray or study. 15 minutes is not a rest after exploring and combat.

    D&D 5E (2024) Monster Manual Organisation

I do not care for indices. I rarely use them unless I am frustrated that I cannot find what I need in the book. If I have to use the index, then the book has already failed. I find a lot of accessibility issues with the print organization. I work on accessibility in publishing tech as one of my...

    D&D 5E (2024) Monster Manual Organisation

I do not disagree with the lists. I just think they are not as accessible as better organization that also promotes a tighter TOC. It feels like they did not care because people will use an e-version.

    D&D 5E (2024) Monster Manual Organisation

You should not have to scan a tiny print index to find the page numbers for a monster. They could do Devil, Vrock and find it naturally.

    D&D 5E (2024) Monster Manual Organisation

Yes, but you apparently can organize files correctly, which used to be basic training for entry level folks. I weep for the future.

    D&D 5E (2024) Lycanthropes in the MM

5.5….more loss of flavor sacrificed for what exactly? This feels exactly like the move to 3.5.
