    Daggerheart General Thread [+]

I just (ending 3.5 hours ago) ran my second session. We played VOIP, TOTM last night. I'm using the 3 actions per round option (corebook, p 89, left column, callout box "spotlight tracker") The flow of the fights is largely me asking, "So, who's next?" with players self policing on 3 spotlights...

Do you remember your first RPG purchase?

I figure most people's first game GMd is suboptimal. It was for both my offspring. It was for me. It was for most of the others i've been a player for in their first game GMd.

Which RPG has the best combat rules for flying vehicles?

GURPS has more math in character gen than about 90% of the hundreds of systems I own. But it's simple math for the most part. The more math games include CORPS, Rolemaster and Champions, Web of Stars, Space Opera... But GURPS itself wasnt the cause for the comment... GURPS Vehicles is much...

    Worlds of Design: Playing Favorites

One other thought on the number of plays... Amongst non-D&D-only players, most have several unplayed systems. I'm at the far end of that....

    Worlds of Design: Playing Favorites

Considering quite a few people log ownership but not plays, and admit it when QOTDs ask, the play count stats are pretty meaningless. I've not logged plays in years. My RPG sessions don't even get logged in the log system...

    Best wuxia RPG?

It's a rules issue mirroring the genre issue. Not as profound, but Feng Shui 2 gives a bonus for colorful descriptions, too... And it's an option in a lot of storygames to give bonuses for colorful narrations. It's the kind of "enforcing the genre" rule I tend to like, but I do realize the PITA...

Which RPG has the best combat rules for flying vehicles?

And enough math to scare many accountants. (CORPS VDS is only slightly better. And it's use cases are easier, too... but CORPS 2e (red hexagon cover) is conceptually harder for people than GURPS.)

    Best wuxia RPG?

That's as much a factor of the whole Wuxia genre... ... the heroes have a quick retort to everything in the Wuxia I've watched. Much of the same for the chanbara genre... Oriental films seem to be fights as time to break out both the social and physical combat rules and give every major...

    The EN World Selfie Thread

I like the hemp twine ones. Especially since the one I had was saturated with glue, and so was durably rigid and didn't soak water... last I saw it, my eldest had decided it was hers... I was out of state at the time.

    Worlds of Design: Playing Favorites

I tend to be a neophile, too, but certain games have lasting appeal. For me, WEG D6 Star Wars, Pendragon 4th, Starships and Spacemen, and LUG-Trek. Newer systems in that space include Sentinel Comics, and likely, Daggerheart. Certain settings, as well, call to me: Mekton Empire, Twilight 2000...

Do you remember your first RPG purchase?

My mother was worried as well, until my 8th grade year (fall 82)... see, one of the guys got me Q1... so we played it that afternoon. Mom thought she was hidden on the stairs, but she heard us fighting demons and exploring, and was suddenly less uptight about it. She still doesn't see the...

Another very nice fedora. My grandfather had a yellow fedora - woven of straw. I had one of starched twine... dog got to mine, mice to Granddaddy's. That twine fedora was the only one I really liked wearing - it was non-opaque to airflow. (yeah, I know I just mixed a metaphor.)

How do you handle jewelry and valuable art as a GM?

Note that the jewelry of the viking era is still not uncommon in the current era, especially since it turns into Scots and Irish as well. The basis of the currency affects the prices, not the weights. Given that jewelry is always a worn object, and may or may not be jeweled... linguistic...

How do you handle jewelry and valuable art as a GM?

A typical circlet is a pound or two. Fancy ones can be up to 6 lb; the coronation crown (St Edward's Crown) of england is about 4.9 lb (2.23kg). Queen Elisabeth's Imperial State Crown, when jeweled was 2.3 lb (1.03kg). The lighter end is about 1/4 lb of filigree wirework The Silver Crowns of...

    Should PCs Be Exceptional?

Only works if players will use them. Too many won't. There's a reason I refuse to run every other or once a month again.

    Let's Talk About Short Campaigns

It was 10 short sessions (~2 hours each)... had it been done FTF rather than VOIP, it would probably have been 5 sessions. It was never intended to run that long, but they wound up pursuing every sidetrack.

Waterbird: you can dive and move naturally underwater; you do not start to drown for the first Strength minutes. You can sleep while floating on the surface, and in rain, without discomfort. That's a double but relatively minor benefit that Swans, Ducks, Geese, and Puffins all can pull off.
