"Open license" simply means that it's not specifically contracted with the licensee and is not charged for; anyone can use the license (become a licensee), for free, by adhering to the license texts and the reference texts. The DP CGL does that. As do the Wizards OGL, most of the CC licenses...

    Should PCs Be Exceptional?

Hell, my own campaigns of that year. Traveller was a 5-6 hour session. Pendragon was 2-4 hours, depending upon when people showed up. Prime Directive was a potent 3-4... but some sessions of PD ran 5... My own over two year campaigns total 2: one was Pendragon - that very campaign. the other...

It [mostly] isn't the present intent that's at issue... neither the WOGL nor the DPCGL are currently problematic... as in, expected to be abused by the companies issuing it. But we know that, every 8-10 years, HasBro is going to push for wizards to find some way to abolish the WOGL and capture...

Do you remember your first RPG purchase?

Oh, and I just recalled my third RPG related purchase: the TSR hexpaper book.

Most averaged 3.5 hours per week; the one every-other-week in that list was 8 hours per session.

What is/are your most recent TTRPG purchase(s)?

I don't think you understand. They had it listed as "in stock"... the email they then sent me showed that it was delayed until it arrives in their warehouse. They concealed that it was not yet in stock. Thanks, BAM, last purchase I'll ever make from you...

    Let's Talk About Short Campaigns

Not really - if it's a single module/adventure. Again, not if it's just one adventure... When I ran Destroyer of Worlds (for Alien), it was one adventure. I don't normally game with that group. we didn't intend to continue past it. (and couldn't, really, either... only 1 PC made it out...). I...

RuneQuest in the 1983 to 1992 timeframe was in fact simpler than D&D. That's RuneQuest 3rd ed timeframe. In the 2006-2012 timeframe, the Mongoose versions of RQ were out. Equally as simpler than current D&D at the time. Neither of those were tied tightly to Glorantha.

3rd parties who are not lawyers and who start out with an apparent dislike of Darrington and CR... not a terribly reliable source of info, either. There really is no better method than hiring a lawyer specializing in IP to review it and brief you. Devon, Legal Eagle, is a bit busy with...

    Should PCs Be Exceptional?

TSR did them, too. One around 1991; I recall the average on the early 90's one was just over 2 years, but the median and mode were both about 1 year. (So a long right leg distribution.) WotC did several - one around the start of 4e dev, one around the start of 5e.

    Should PCs Be Exceptional?

30 years ago, June 1995... amongst the game groups I knew... AY was on year 5... but 3 of his starting 4 had been replaced after they moved out of state. Ship of Theseus issues? RCM was running two campaigns, both under 6 months. I was running 3 campaigns, 1 Traveller, 1 Pendragon, and 1 Prime...

    Do You Care About Cosmology?

YUP! Mythology really doesn't apply in the technical sense, as the beings we'd label mythological are cosmological forces within the majority of D&D settings... Mythology is the fantasy written to explain the world's cosmology... But in D&D, it's often written such that the gods actually did...

Creative Commons is convoluted, and isn't ONE license, but a family of more than 6 variations. Further, Creative Commons wasn't intended for mixed license material - as in, listing a raft of sections as product identity and thus off limits. It can be used that way, but it's not a standard...

Which RPG has the best combat rules for flying vehicles?

I actually liked the Rules Companion scaling rules... where capping was "above cap = 0" instead of 2E's "above cap = cap"... But I prefer 2.0 over 1.0, 1.5 (Core+RC), or 2eR&E. Tho the 1e rules do have scaling... see paage 65... only two explicit: Starfighter and Personal.

Which RPG has the best combat rules for flying vehicles?

Agree. 2nd ed, however, was easier to use for many-on-many, at the expense of using a map. (not of need gridded.) Also, I liked the Star Warriors boardgame, which had integration with 1e. Yup. I disagree... but I'll note that they're always a compromise on usefulness vs realism vs playability...
