Spoilers What do casual fans get wrong about Star Wars?

They categorize it as science-fiction because there's spaceships.

RPGs webstores. How does it work?

I don't think it's that unlikely. The stores available already do that. Just having a store obtaining a bunch of zines or books at a reduced price and then shipping them for free (or a much lower rate) makes a world of difference. And I understanding what you're saying. But the examples you're...

RPGs webstores. How does it work?

It's not because I personally want the products cheaper. It's because there's a lack of offer in canadian-friendly stores. It's difficult for us to source books at an appropriate price, canadian. If it was just from me, I'd just do a few hours of overtime and buy the products.

    The Cosmere Game Review

I'm not an expert, I read a handful of his books years ago but I'm not into the world "cosmere". That really expanded after I stopped reading. But different book series have different magic systems. The most notable example I think the Mistborn series where some people have a gift where they...

RPGs webstores. How does it work?

I am! And I love Ratti Incantati. But they have a rather limited amount of product (that that they don't have a lot, but there's a limited number of products they can handle) and they tend not to stock most of the products I'm interested in. They also seem to be spreading to other things like...

    WotC D&D Universes Beyond

I agree. I hate it. It's so bad in Magic the Gathering. When it started it wasn't so bad, it felt like it would be one set. I saw some D&D and Tolkien. That's kind of a logical crossover. I don't mind a special event. But there's been so many cards printed in so many franchises (Transformers...

RPGs webstores. How does it work?

So one thing that I realized over the last few years is that it kind of sucks to buy RPG products in Canada. For the large games, it's not an issue. D&D, Pathfinder, Free League go through large-scale established distributors and make it to physical stores. You go to the store, there's price...

    Tell your overdue Kickstarter story

I've been lucky, all my Kickstarters but two ended up well. The first well is a video game I backed in 2019. They said it would come out in 2021. It's seems to be nowhere near finished, and I have six years of bi-annual updates where they say "we're sorry for being silent for six month, we'll...

    Genre Discussion: Cyberpunk

Of course. But I do think roleplaying games lean more easily into some type of stories. There's a reason why there's so much action and violence in most games. You could absolutely do a roleplaying about a romance, or a familial drama or managing a business. But it's clearly very design goals...

Name an TTRPG You Really Like But Have Never Played/GMed

There's so much... But the ones that come to mind are: The One Ring 2E Orbital Blues Ultraviolet Grasslands I really want to run them. On paper, they seem to be really good games and I really enjoyed reading the books. But, oh boy, I think 70% of my collection of games are in that category.

    Genre Discussion: Cyberpunk

I'm a fan of Cyberpunk in general (both the themes it explores, and the more superficial aesthetics that emerged out of the genre over time). But one of my issue with the genre in a social setting is the gap there is between people liking the aesthetic and the different fantasies to explore...

    Photography thread

The Geek Talk & Media forum seem to cover a wide array of topics. I know Photography isn't directly linked to TTRPG and geek hobbies, but it's something I've started two years ago. It marries two things that I really like: technology and art. It's been a great creative outlet when life got a bit...

    Hit points as luck

It's an age-old argument. For me, the dealbreaker is things like Cure Wounds. If hit points were just your stamina, luck, position or something like that instead of wounds, there wouldn't be all these spells that interact with HP like if they were wounds. But some games do approach HPs that...

D&D General D&D 6e ala Steampunkette: Structural thoughts

I agree. It is a solution. I just don't think it's an interesting one. Maybe the solution is also to look at casters. 5E introduced cantrips so casters could do reliable damage every turn, I was always under the assumption that this was the distinction. Yes casters could unleash devastating...

D&D General D&D 6e ala Steampunkette: Structural thoughts

It's a matter of taste. But most of what you're suggesting is generally in the right direction for me. #4, #6, #8 and #10 especially. I often think about these little nuggets of design too. #10 is a good example. It seems so small, but it has huge repercussions on other design decisions. I...

What are you reading in 2025?

I like it so far. It's very obvious that it's a foundational work for the genre of Cyberpunk. It's not exactly what I thought it was thought. I was expecting something very straightforward. But it's actually a more challenging read than I was expecting.
