ATTACK! MCDM's new rpg and removing the to-hit roll

Its Tunnels and Trolls, both sides roll up all their damage and compare totals. Highest wins and inflicts their rolled damage on their opponents.

    What makes a game OSR?

Hot Take: the marketing makes a game OSR. The slightly spicier hot take: OSR games tend to be structured around an imagined (mostly by designers who were not born yet or not playing ttrpgs at the time) play style supposed (by those same designers) to have been dominate in the “early days”...

The Best Game for A Long Campaign

I vastly prefer D100 variants for long campaigns, they have a couple advantages. Slow skill based progression, more grounded in reality, no power fantasy/ super hero level power creep, and it is my experience that games like Runequest, Mythras, Magic World or Open quest (Dragonbane seems to fit...

Dolmenwood ks has over 7000 followers

I agree with you that converting to Forbidden lands will be a huge undertaking. I plan on using Dragonbane without changing much of anything as I have run several BX and OSE adventures without needing to do much of anything except thinking of beginning DB characters as 3rd or 4th level BX/OSE...

Drakar och Demoner / Dragonbane - Quick overview

One of the things Free league has said is coming is a bestiary. Their is also a setting and campaign book on Kick starter from the host of the Sweden Rolls podcast based on his several decade long campaign.

Drakar och Demoner / Dragonbane - Quick overview

the only thing I can fault the Box Set for is that the Standees didn't have a couple of the monsters from the adventure book but that's a small quibble. The game looks great and plays fantastic.

Official Adventure Time RPG Uses New 'Yes And' System

I would look at the Polymorph version but frankly if your publishing for three or four different systems it screams cash grab to me. Especially since this is an IP thats pretty old at this point, last episode aired in September 2018.

Official Adventure Time RPG Uses New 'Yes And' System

Oh good another game with funky (expensive) dice and “improv” based rules. Great.

    TTRPG Freelancer Writer/Editor Rate Survey

Wow, most copy writers for marketing (mostly 500-2000 words) make from .40-1.00 per word. Rates vary based on experience but anything under .10 is fresh out of school zero experience or portfolio

Renegade Studios Sends C&D To Stop Small Creator Using The Word 'Renegade'

Renegade Game studio doesn't make any games I am interested in but I will avoid and trash talk them all the same. Renegade City on the other hand sounds interesting I may have to pick up a copy.

Dragonbane Character Advancement and Power Levels

Instead of High power vs low power, high risk vs Low risk is maybe a better way to approach it. I have played mostly player skill based systems and while highly skilled characters are powerful a farmer with a pitch fork can absolutely end them. One of the major benefits of Dragonbane is...

Free League announces Dragonbane, the translation of Swedish RPG classic Drakar och Demoner

The beauty of Dragonbane it that it can work for Xoth and hardcore games like what S’mon is doing here: And it works great for my kids (7b,10g,11g) who want more shenanigans, goblin smashing and adventure with out the dying. As for me it saves me from having to GM DnD 5e or one of the zillions...

Download Critical Role’s New RPG Quickstart

Oh look its “not” blades in the dark…just what we need. How is the narrative style of FITD going to work with the GM heavy style of CR? Seems like a weird choice.

Alternate systems suggestions to play in the world of Harn

Pendragon fits harn well if you tone down the passions rules, Dragonbane from free league is basically fantasy pendragon minus all the heroic overly dramatic knights. Magic World is a great BRP system from Chaosium that works very well for low magic skill based settings.

    Anyone else backed Dragonbane?

Question for the couple of folks who have been running DB games, I am switching from 5e to DB for my kids home game. I am converting their 4th lvl characters over now, skills and heroic abilities were easy my problem is how many advancement rolls would you equate to a lvl? My best guess is an...

Kyle Brink (D&D Exec Producer) On OGL Controversy & One D&D (Summary)

The for profit company that promoted this is Ethisphere, they are essentially a two sided business. What's Your "Sweet Spot" for a Skill system?

I won’t run or play class/level games anymore so skills are the only way for me. I feel like ~30 skills is good for most fantasy games, modern and scifi games will often need more than that but top out at around 40.
