the Adventures in Zeitgeist B.E.A.R. is built using the A5E Monstrous Menagerie rules (which are fairly reliable and carry over to base 5e pretty well), and fits that pretty much perfectly (its HP is 25% lower then the average CR 10 monster, and so its damage is 25% higher to account for that)...

looks like he replaced the image with one that has the saving throws corrected, which tells me it was just typos. when i first made that post, they made no sense (strength save was at +7, wisdom save was at +8, etc).

the difference there is you're giving an actual reason why that particular goblin (or group of goblins) is stronger. in my mind, they're effectively different creatures.

i mean, i consider it a narrative problem as well. why are these great heroes struggling with a regular zombie like first timers? if anything, it's overwhelmingly (video) gamey.

i actually hate this sort of thing in RPGs, since IMO it really does make progression feel meaningless. it's one thing if, as you level up, you mainly fight monsters that are at your level. it's an entirely different thing if, as you level up, you just fight the same monsters you've always...

unless there's additional context i'm missing, i wouldn't really call that a nitpick. that sounds like he's being outright misleading.

burrowrider and wallrider explicitly state they and the other archetypes in the section are for small characters only. waverider and wingrider don't, but i assume that's just because someone forgot to put that segment in for them.
