Forgotten Realms: Astarion's Book of Hungers - First Impressions

Yeah, the price debate does not really mean anything to me since i don't use Beyond I don't know what is typical or acceptable for that platform. Most RPG stuff continues to be woefully underpriced because gamers are, by and large, cheap, so folks creating valuable material are not being paid...

Forgotten Realms: Astarion's Book of Hungers - First Impressions

They have. The Kwalish adventure comes to mind. But, yeah, Beyond only is a complete no go.

Wait, it isn't even a PDF?

[Old school] I can't deal with inventory

I think that overstates it by quite a lot. There are tons of "encumbrance" solutions out there, ranging from spreadsheets to pure handwavium and everything in between.

[Old school] I can't deal with inventory

In games about getting treasure and getting out alive, I think this is super important. What are you taking? What are you willing to leave behind?

GMs: What is your prep to play ratio?

I'm a big fan of curated random.encounter tables. This particular Dark Forest possesses certain traits, so it's encounter table should be distinct.

D&D General Why Elon Musk Needs Dungeons & Dragons to Be Racist

I personally don't think any good comes from any discussion of such issues in RPGs that originates outside of the industry and fandom. We absolutely do have things we have to reckon with, but letting agitators of any persuasion frame the discussion based on non-gamer perspectives is just playing...

GMs: What is your prep to play ratio?

This has been my complaint for years. The answer, according to James Jacobs and in relation to Pathfinder anyway, is that lots of people don't run adventures, they just read them.

    D&D 5E (2024) One Store's Sales (D&D 2014 & 2024)

I mean, Greg Land spent a lot of time tracing Maxim and similar periodicals of the time -- but it wasn't a bad story!

D&D General Why Elon Musk Needs Dungeons & Dragons to Be Racist

Well, since you are especially concerned about it, why don't you give us the test of the article so we can discuss it?

Hey, Sovereign was a good book.

    Why do we need thieves??

Conan was not a D&D character. Trying to use him to define what either a thief or a barbarian is works about as well as using Aragorn to define what a ranger is. All classes, specialties or whatever your system of choice calls them are mechanical package of play-roles designed to enforce niche...

    D&D 5E (2024) One Store's Sales (D&D 2014 & 2024)

Does that mean we will at least gen cinematic universes worth of D&D movies?

D&D General Why Elon Musk Needs Dungeons & Dragons to Be Racist

Remember like a year ago when Musk threatened to buy D&D and everyone got all atwitter (pun intended)? Yeah. Who cares? And no,I haven't read the article, but not because it is behind a paywall. It's because there is literally nothing less compelling that the combined words of "D&D" and...

D&D 5E (2024) Help Me Fill Out a Treasure Hoard

As I suspected, this is more "appropriately balanced" than I am going for. I'm intentionally looking for a CR30 treasure hoard to see what the PCs do with it.

Nah. The distances and challenges between stars is so great that interstellar hostility makes no sense at all.

    D&D 5E (2024) One Store's Sales (D&D 2014 & 2024)

I'm definitely not a 2024 booster, but at least thus far I don't see anything internally competing. Whenever they release the 2024 revision of, say, Xanathar's -- sure. But as it stands there doesn't seem to be any inherent competition between 2014 and 2024 products beyond core rules, and new...

D&D 5E (2024) Help Me Fill Out a Treasure Hoard

This is a good idea, but unfortunately I used it in the previous adventure of this campaign where the PCs were liberating spellcasters who had displeased the Usurper from a "prison" where everyone was petrified (it was actually a Geomancy node inhabited by petrifying monsters).
