D&D General No One Reads Conan Now -- So What Are They Reading?

I wouldn't say the classics like Howard, and Moorcock are necessarily better but I can't ever imagine reading a book about an orc in a coffee shop. I think the prevalance of cozy and romantasy is really not something male readers are attracted to though. I honestly believe men and women just...

D&D General No One Reads Conan Now -- So What Are They Reading?

Oh 100% The discussion of racism in D&D and fantasy is extraordinarily tedious or preachy at this point. People that think there is racism are convinced and people that don't find it a stretch.

D&D General No One Reads Conan Now -- So What Are They Reading?

I mean with Romantasy and Coffee shop storie like Legends and Lattes inundating the shelves its not surprising that there are less males reading fantasy now. Romance has always been the best selling genre and the readership was not male. same is happening with Romantasy.

D&D General Why grognards still matter

If we mattered to WOTC the art direction for 2024 5e would have been much different,

    D&D 5E (2024) What's In D&D's New Starter Set?

This seems more akin to DUNGEON than D&D. My 11 year old knows how to play well now. She may be to advanced for this now. Didn't like how they insinuate that the slight amount of math in regular D&D is "pesky". I think they oversimplified this.

Dungeons & Dragons Dumps Disclaimers From Book Credits Page

Now hopefully they will stop writing the silly quotations like they included in Xanathars and the Dragonbook. They were most definitely not immersion and felt like monster tweets. I'm ok with losing the disclaimers and encourage them to include less things like this.

2025 Monster Manual to Introduce Male Versions of Hags, Medusas, and Dryads

I'm not into the arbitrary lore changes. I'd rather just keep the monsters as close to their mythology as possible.

WotC Mike Mearls: "D&D Is Uncool Again"

I'm not sure. It seems there is a conflict between those that started playing it as a game and still play it as a game and those that use it as an engine to tell stories. Actual Plays really changed expectations. I'm not sure if people that get onboard from the AP actually worry that much...

Are Orcs in the Monster Manual? No and Yes.

He gave an utterly neutral point of view on it all. Professor DM gives detached analysis exactly the way it should be done. He's pretty much just analyzing the business ends of things, he really doesn't go into the culture war at all. That Musk video was just discussing the possibilities, and...

Are Orcs in the Monster Manual? No and Yes.

I agree with this if we are talking about the real world. IN a fantasy world though? They're not real it just doesn't matter.

Are Orcs in the Monster Manual? No and Yes.

It got lots of complaints because it gave in to the Christian alarmism the same way the modern orcs gave in to the Orc Racism alarmism. James Ward addressed this in a facebook post as he said he didn't want moms feeling bad about buying the games. I distinctly remember myself and several...

Are Orcs in the Monster Manual? No and Yes.

Orcs aren't genetically evil. Is there genetics in D&D? Its Dubious. Orcs are magically evil due to a creationist origin of species via Gruumsh. In a world where Alignment is a cosmological force it is absolutely appropriate to have pre determined alignment at birth. Its not the real world.

Are Orcs in the Monster Manual? No and Yes.

They unfortunately catered to a bunch of twitter activists that acted like the old christian moms. The case had just as much merit. I don't think any of the full time designers really thought there was anything wrong with the evil aligned orcs. If there was social media in the 80's the...

Are Orcs in the Monster Manual? No and Yes.

Yes but in D&D the humans aren't the monsters thanks to the Alignment system. Humans can be monsters. Orcs, goblinoids, and other greenskins are always monsters that's the difference. Making them playable is a mistake. Nobody is racist for making orcs evil minions. That's satanic panic level...

Are Orcs in the Monster Manual? No and Yes.

It's sad that the alarmism around orcs became a thing let alone a successful campaign. Orcs were always monsters and if they were not playable this predicament wouldn't be a thing. The racism ideas around orcs were the new Satanic Panic and Video Game leads to violence alarmism. Biggest regret...

    Roll20 Purchases Demiplane

I'm a roll 20 member but I really don't use it that much. I'm a D&D and Traveller Whale so I fully intend to sign on to what ever WOTC has planned for their VTT and drop any other subscriptions I have. Companies are going to have to do this to compete with WOTC. Its just like Miller and...
