That’s admittedly true. Political intrigues are rare in my games, and we tend to keep it highly abstracted so that we can get back to the fun parts (wilderness exploration). I’m realizing that maybe my playstyle is a mirror opposite, lol

Your #2 confused me, and I was gonna make a smarmy comment like “What do you mean, ‘once-a-campaign’?” But then I realize I play all the games I DM as your #1. Every game is a survival game.

Bookkeeping isn’t fun, but simulations and resource constraints definitely can be. The trick is finding an enjoyable balance for your group.

That’s a partial solution for sure. Still, if you’re the type of simulationist who likes encumbrance, you probably aren’t phoning in tracking food, water, and ammo either.

Definitely a weakness of modern D&D. By a series of mechanical quirks, Dex is simply better than other abilities: Great defense, great offense, great non-combat utility, all from one convenient number. You move fast, fight from range, and there’s no friendly-fire to worry about. You’re right...

It certainly requires a specific game type to encourage “realistic” adventuring practices, the nitty gritty details that aren’t part of the heroic stories/shows/games. Also I would love a prestidigitation spell for personal hygiene in real life, so convenient. Can I use it on other people too?

I love this logistical stuff but it definitely seems unpopular with players, who prefer the fantastical heroism of carrying everything without ever worrying about it. (Nevermind that even wearing a backpack would interfere with combat in ways players arent prepared for.) The solution is easy...
