D&D 5E (2014) D&D's Classic Settings Are Not 'One Shots'

No, but I'll almost certainly pick it up when it hits DriveThruRPG.

D&D 5E (2014) D&D's Classic Settings Are Not 'One Shots'

And isn't Magitech the go-to term for Final Fantasy's aesthetic (apparently Final Fantasy VI coined the term). If cribbing off of Anime's notes is the best future for D&D...

D&D 5E (2014) D&D's Classic Settings Are Not 'One Shots'

For the record: the proper term for Eberron's aesthetic (to the point that Eberron's player base likely coined it) is "Dungeonpunk". Because the technology being extrapolated to Science Fantasy proportions is specifically sufficiently-analyzed, D&D-style, magic. Dungeon Punk - TV Tropes

D&D 5E (2024) One D&D Survey Feedback: Weapon Mastery Spectacular; Warlock and Wizard Mixed Reactions

Or just ignore this OneDND business and fully move to the Creative Commons SRD as the "standard" foundation.

That could also work for Psychics... or Artificers... or even Ritual Casting...

D&D 5E (2024) One D&D Survey Feedback: Weapon Mastery Spectacular; Warlock and Wizard Mixed Reactions

I've been using some homebrew from DNDWiki and that basically just moved the Arcane Focus to the "Class Features" section of the sheet. I agree on moving the spells with costed materials off of the Sorcs list, as well.

D&D 4E Ben Riggs' "What the Heck Happened with 4th Edition?" seminar at Gen Con 2023

Moderately off topic: but did anyone ever pull anything like a Pathfinder or an Old-School Essentials with Fourth Edition? A distilled/upgraded version? The basic ideas appeal to be, but it sounds like the whole line was... inconsistent and under-polished.

D&D 5E (2014) Obojima: Tales from the Tall Grass

I mean, if magic WAS a common thing in a Modern-Day-Earth-like setting, they would totally be putting mystic meal-replacement drinks (that also heal minor wounds) in the Coke machines. Or some lobby somewhere suppressing them into oblivion because leaving people starving is more profitable...

D&D 5E (2014) Obojima: Tales from the Tall Grass

Saw an ad for this on the latest episode of Fool's Gold and I like what I'm seeing. My Platonic ideal of D&D (I think I mentioned this in that last Zelda/Ghibli thread) has always been: Crossing vast, picturesque, landscapes, either by road, rail, or airway... Delving into crumbling temples...

News Digest for August 4, 2023

Would have expected Monte Cook to get Night Vale. They got Magnus Archives and Old Gods of Appalachia, previously.

Official Adventure Time RPG Uses New 'Yes And' System

I actually just saw Wizards, recently. It was pretty alright. I full-on cheered during the final showdown between Blackwolf and Avatar, that was nuts. Also Elinore... being Elinore (Bakshi's going to Bakshi). Don't know how you expand on it, outside of a near-past prequel or a LotR-style...

Official Adventure Time RPG Uses New 'Yes And' System

Given what I've heard of Dungeon/Mutant Crawl Classics, wouldn't it be a bit too lethal for this setting? I'd prefer straight B/X, specifically Old School Essentials.

Renegade Studios Sends C&D To Stop Small Creator Using The Word 'Renegade'

I hope these guys call RGS's bluff. See how far they'll take this. And, I agree, the GTA similarities are probably a greater concern.
