D&D General What version of D&D are you playing?

As of today, only 45% are playing 5E2024. Interesting.

D&D General I asked AI: "What's the Most Common Cause of Character Death?"

PC's almost never experience permadeath in D&D, so it's a moot point.

D&D General Charisma Checks gone Horribly Wrong - Can you Relate?

As long as you keep in mind that CHA isn't magic, and could never compel someone to do something they don't want to do, I have no problem with CHA checks...and I don't need RP for every attempt.

How long before VTTs support TTRPGs with AI GMs?

Without links or support, everything you state is an opinion. I use Copilot a lot. It once told me that 2+2=5 (no, I'm not kidding) When I brought the error to to it's attention, it told me that most AI's aren't equipped to check basic math. How good of a GM could an AI be with a game that has...

How long before VTTs support TTRPGs with AI GMs?

IMHO, AI won't catch on until it can actually change course based on player actions and decisions. Players always think of things that you didn't, and the GM needs to be able to adapt on the fly. Can AI really do that effectively now? I don't think so.

Will the complexity pendulum swing back?

You asked for everyone's view and that's what you got. If you just wanted an echo chamber that reflected your own view, you should have indicated as such.

What is your favourite part of TTRPGing?

    Tactical combat

D&D General Weapons should break left and right

There are rules in PF for shield damage which is used quite often. Damage to weapons and armor is only supposed to occur if they are specifically targeted. I asked my group if they wanted me to integrate that rule, and only 1 person out of 5 was ok with it. While it may be realistic, it's just...

Will the complexity pendulum swing back?

I suspect that as more younger people join the hobby, and older people leave (one way or another), games will get simpler just because there are more distractions, and demand for such games will eventually dominate. D&D will likely remain the dominate player for the foreseeable future, and with...

D&D General Who is this made for (Not Beginners) - the New D&D Starter Set

Honestly, I'd be "afraid" to play the remake. Throughout the entire game I'd be comparing the new and original in my mind.

D&D General Advice for a new DM

First and foremost, be kind to yourself. D&D is a game, and should be fun for everyone including the GM. Don't stress. Normal people will be understanding that you're new to GMing. And they will appreciate someone willing to take that roll. On the practical side, I always read through the...

Critical Role Professor DM interviews Critical Role Cast

Well, of course they aren't going to say that it's about the money. But, in business, money is always the primary consideration. Even people with a YT channel are concerned about money (if it's their primary source of income), right?

D&D General Who is this made for (Not Beginners) - the New D&D Starter Set

About 10 years ago, I joined a game where the DM literally dropped the Players Handbook in front of a newbie and stood there with his arms crossed as the newbie read it.

What gets me playing Draw Steel and not Pathfinder 2e?

That's definitely an issue. I can't believe they stuffed a large monster in a 3x3 room on the second level (trying to avoid spoilers). That really limits tactics.

D&D General Who is this made for (Not Beginners) - the New D&D Starter Set

Specifically the module, not the starter set itself. Why choose a remake of B2 if not to catch the attention of older players?

D&D General Who is this made for (Not Beginners) - the New D&D Starter Set

I was responding to the OP's comment claiming there were no rules.

Critical Role Professor DM interviews Critical Role Cast

It's a financial decision obviously. D&D has more players, thus more people would watch it than DaggerHeart.

D&D General Who is this made for (Not Beginners) - the New D&D Starter Set

I'm surprised that they didn't include rules, but I assumed it was primarily targeting Gen X nostalgia, not new players.

What gets me playing Draw Steel and not Pathfinder 2e?

There are abilities though that depend on the battlefield conditions, or other factors that may occur infrequently. And if you don't see those conditions, after a while, people get into the "roll to hit" mode instead of being on constant alert for that one occasion when the planets are aligned...

What gets me playing Draw Steel and not Pathfinder 2e?

People who are disengaged are likely disengaged regardless of the game. There is a lot to remember in DS, and adults with limited time are not going to pick it up right away. That doesn't mean that they are disengaged.
