D&D General Mike Mearls says control spells are ruining 5th Edition

Then Legendary Resistances must stay because the single enemy boss encounter is, quite frankly, a much older and deeper part of core fantasy experience than all these control spells, it goes as far as they mythology, where usually big monsters were indeed singular - Typhor, Tiamat, Ymir - and/or...

D&D General Mike Mearls says control spells are ruining 5th Edition

Then there should be built in mechanisms to ensure they don't either just auto-win the combat, or do nothing, making you feel like you wasted your turn. Witholding the "I win button" effect to later turns or making them do something smaller if they fail could be both good solutions.

D&D General Mike Mearls says control spells are ruining 5th Edition

I think hypotethical 6e should take a page out of Draw Steel and have similiar mexhanic, where stronger effects are accessible the longer combat goes or more victories players amass, but whenever they rest, this resets. This way we can ward "I win button" spells behind a "turn 3/requires 5...

D&D General Mike Mearls says control spells are ruining 5th Edition

I am annoyed by people who try to "fix" Legendary Resistance instead of fixing the "I win button" spells, got in at least one argument with a youtuber about it once

D&D General Forgotten Realms Book preview from NYCC

This is a cool plan, if you need extra content then I recall Dungeon magazine had two Daelands adventures: the Raiders of Galath's Roots in issue #87 and Woe to Mistledale in issue #100, which I think is a sequel to Raiders.

D&D General How do you prefer your monster books?

Setting sprciffic is general by default, I thought only setting and monster speciffic needs extra option.

D&D General How do you prefer your monster books?

What is your prefered type of monster book? Standard Monster Manual, where you get seemingly random assortment if creatures of all types? Collection of monsters of speciffic type? Or threats you can encounter in speciffic setting, be it whole world or location? Some mix of the two? Also, which...

What does a tank graveyard mean to you in your game?

Treacherous swamp. During last war, many times a tank or another vehicle tried to coss it to outmanover or escape an enemy, they all would sink. Now people go there looking for scrap and war-telated thropies and artifacts to sell.

D&D General If Nentir Vale were in the Forgotten Realms, where would they be?

How would the history work, that is a biggest question for me. Nentir Vale had entire empires of Tieflings and Dragonborn, would they now be retconned into Realms' history?

D&D 5E (2024) Does Innate Sorcery grant True Strike advantage?

The class taking level in got you that cantrip. You need to pick True Strike when you take a level in Warlock for Agonizing and Repelling Blast, but you need to pick it when taking level in Sorcerer for Innate Spellcasting.
